Photographer’s Note

The island of Penang is a fascinating fusion of the East and West which embraces modernity while retaining its traditions and old world charm. These are reflected in its harmonious multiracial populace and well-preserved heritage buildings which led to Georgetown which recently were listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Among the many attraction of Penang certainly are ferries which connect Georgetown with the mainland city of Butterworth. This ferry trips are among our favorites and there always are many things to observe in particular weather changes like this upcoming storm. Clouds can be very dramatic...

Indeed, clouds can be very dramatic as it is the case in here. It is a quite nice shot with a good POV.

What a imminent sky, real a big storm or thunderstorm is coming. Also we get a very good composition and nice depth sight.

Hi Urs,
Good shot and good timing showing the tropical thurderstorm in the brewing. The blue sky give good contrasts and match well with the ferry/boat. The city skyline looks rather fragile. Good composition divide into 1/3 and 2/3. Sharpness again is a bit soft due to the capability of the camera. Very nice regardless.

Hello Urs,
From my time in the tropics the thing that always stood out for me were the fantastic thunderstorms that seemed to come from nowhere then disappear just as quickly.
I like this image very much, the dark storm clouds about to descend onto the city are spectacular.
Good composition, including the ferry in the foreground adds much to the wide shot, it looks like it is running before the tempest arrives.
Great atmospheric capture, well spotted.

Hi Urs,
The sky is absolutely stunning! It's amazing how it is so dark on the right and fully sunny on the right. THe yellowish light and its glow on the dark sea is also fabulous.
It's only pity that it is tilted and that the sharpness isn't so good.

Not the best of sharpness on the buildings in the BG, but the composition is well done with the looming large 3D clouds. The blue of the ferry contrasts with the light coloured buildings in the BG.
