Photographer’s Note
George Town is the capital city of the state of Penang in Malaysia. Named after Britain's King George III, the city is located on the north-east corner of Penang Island and has about 220,000 inhabitants, or about 400,000 including the suburbs.
George Town was founded in 1786 by Captain Francis Light, a trader for the British East India Company, as base for the company in the Malay States. He obtained the island of Penang from the Sultan of Kedah and built Fort Cornwallis on the north-eastern corner of the island. The fort became the nexus of a growing trading post and the island's population reached 12,000 by 1804.
George Town is informally known simply as Tanjung ("The Cape") in Malay and 喬治市 (Qiáozhě Shě) in Chinese. It was voted as one of the best cities in Asia by Asiaweek, ranked 6th in 1998 and 9th in 2000. More recently in 2007, it was ranked as the 10th most liveable city in Asia according to an international survey involving 254 cities worldwide by Conditions Abroad Limited (ECA International). Back in 2002, it was placed 12th. A city is judged based on its weather, air quality, infrastructure, health services, housing, security and politics.
Due to strict rent controls, George Town retains many colonial-era shophouses to this day and is often considered an architectural gem. Most of George Town's population is of Chinese origin.
Since the repeal of the rent controls in 2000, many pre-war buildings have given way to new high rises. Heritage guidelines are still in its infancy and much needs to be done to conserve such treasures for the benefit of future generations.
On 7 July 2008, George Town, the historic capital of Penang was formally inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside with Malacca. It is officially recognized as having a unique architectural and cultural townscape without parallel anywhere in East and Southeast Asia.[1]

Hello Foozi,
You found a nice POV here with a view of the condos & high rises that I haven't seen before. Nice cool blue hour photo with a lot of luminosity. Interesting light lining Seberang Perai and maybe Kedah too. Great notes. Salam. Latiff.

hello Foozi
This view is from hotel?
Very nicely captured POV showing the evening skyline of the city, a bit of evening light on the clouds and some building lights. Penang used to be no.1 tourist destination in Malaysia when every foreign visitor would only know this name on the map. They might not know Kuala Lumpur but they would know Penang. Of course, one cannot forget the superb hawker and street food in Penang.
Greetings from Borneo.

I must say the clouds adds a lot to make this one more interesting. Smoother flowing clouds on either side breaks in the center for a brighter fluffy centerpiece, with a bit of remaining blue sky on its side.
Just the right time of the evening when colourful lights come on and skylight is still bright enough to keep buildings and the water sufficiently visible. Nice one.

Hi Foozi,
the mighty clouds make this shot of the blue hour in Georgetown very attractive! The colors are amazing and I like the atmosphere of this charming town that thanks UNESCO has become a world heritage very much.
But I am afraid that this photo lacks a bit of sharpness which might be a problem of my monitor? Nevertheless, a wonderful composition!
Warm regards
Harriet

Hey Foozi,
A beautiful night shot of this very nice looking city. I`ve seen quite a couple of photos of it on the net, and it looks very impressive. Fine exposition, lighting. Even the clouds are well defined. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards.

Hi Foozi,
Seem not easy to shoot a night photo, although tripod was use, but still a little blur, I still can see and feel the dazzling and busy city at early night, thanks for sharing.
