This picture was taken in Pulau Langkawi, Dataran Lang.

The 12m high brown and white eagle on the water's edge near the the ferry terminal in Kuah is the island’s symbol . The park is a popular place to stroll and picnic and to look at carvings related to local folklore .

Dataran Lang (Lang Square) is Langkawi's most outstanding landmark for visitors arriving by ferry. It is strategically located near the Kuah jetty and can hardly be missed as it boasts a sculpture of a majestic brown eagle with wings spread out, ready for flight.

Folklore dictates that the eagle is a symbol from where the name Langkawi originated. Lang refers to helang (eagle) while kawi means a rock. Thus leading to the idea that the eagle is standing mighty on the rock. Another legend says that the 'lang' and 'kawi' connotes bronze in Sanskrit.

Designed with unique architectural concepts, the square also features picturesque terraces, ponds, bridges, restaurants and barrel vaults, made of bricks. Take time out and experience a quiet evening walk to dinner through the square while breathing in fresh air from the nearby sea.

At night, it is such a sight to behold as the entire square is illuminated and lighted. From the sea, the panorama is simply awesome. Perfect place for those who has passion for photography, it gives you many different angles during sunset and sunrise.

As for this one, I have zoom through the focusing ring in to the figure by setting a low shutter speed thus creating an effect as if the eagle is ALIVE!
