Photographer’s Note
Kampar is a town in the state of Perak, Malaysia. Founded in 1887, the town lies within the Kinta Valley, an area rich with tin reserves. It was a tin mining town which boomed during the heights of the tin mining industry. There were many tin mines on the outskirts of Kampar during the heights, but most have closed down following the collapse of the industry.
The booms and busts of Kampar followed the vicissitudes of the mining industry. Most of them were established in the late 19th century, flourished in the 1900s, only to stagnate and decline after World War I, with the exception of an exhilarating boom in the 1920s.
Kampar town can be broadly divided between the 'old town' and 'new town' areas. The old town consists of two main streets of charming pre-war shophouses, the fronts of which are still mostly in its original unrenovated appearance. Commerce in the old town area mainly consists of coffee shops, goldsmiths and local retailers. The new town area mainly consists of new residential developments and some commerce servicing the burgeoning education industry in Kampar.
Kampar had its share of bloodbath during the Japanese Occupation in 1941 to 1945. Between December 30 1941 to 2 January 1942, a battle between 3000 British personnel and over 6000 Japanese soldiers erupted. This battle is vividly documented and highlighted by famous Kampar historian, Chye Kooi Loong.

Ally,
Very nice POV that show the over impression of the city. It looks rather peaceful, with just enough cars, but not caotic like large city. Very typical of many Asian country style of house and shops, I use to live in one of this similar house. This bring back much memories for me. Thanks

Olá Ally, good perspective of the road with interesting colorful details to discover everywhere. The WS works well bringing the cyclist closer to us. He/she is an excellent inclusion and problably turned out the main element of the scene. The other nice detail that atracts my attention is the elegant curve of the lamppost on the sky at right.

Hi Ally,
what a lovely perspective. I like to see all those colors of the architectures and the inclusion of the cyclist as a nice focal point. The cloudy sky helps to gring all the dramatism out. Great job!

Hello Ally.
A very natural looking daily life shot, taken from a well chosen viewpoint and well timed to capture the cyclists in a good place in the frame. Nice view of the colourful shops under the stormy sky. Thanks for the information about the town.

Hi Ally,
The point of view is showing the movement on the street under a cloudy sky. The buildings are framing well the street. The presence of the people and of the cars has an effect of scale. The cloudy sky is filtering the light which is bringing the colors and giving them a good contrast. Have a nice day.

hi Ally
I like this Kampar town street scenery with very good clarity and sharpness, you have also chosen very good composition here. I can also tell you that this scene is very similar to one of Kuching streets with the row of shops and the style of architecture. Pre-war days.

Bonjour Ally.
Le ciel avec ses nuages menaçants semble vouloir écraser la ville. Les villes minières souvent ne sont prospères que le temps de l'exploitation, en France c'est aussi le cas.
Beau travail et une note intéressante !

Hello Ally,
Perak has certainly been stormy recently in more than one sense. The change of government has put the state under spotlight for all to see.
It is always these kind of old shops and bazaar that give its unique flavor to every town. You have captured this peaceful scene well especially with the good contrast provided by the stormy sky.

The crop in the WS works well I think, so we have a closer view of the cyclist, who makes a good point of interest in the scene. Good use of the perspective of the road to lead the eye down the street.

Hello Ally,
excellent perspective! first of all, I must say that I prefer the "uncropped" original version to the WS "cropped" version :) I don't know why... I like this large empty area of the road with two people riding bikes somewhere in the middle of the road! The uncropped photo has more balance, I think...
Interesting scene! I like such photos, they show what life really is like in those places which we may never see for real - a bit of a "foreign" lifestyle!..
So thanks for the photo :)
best regards,
Elena

Hi Ally,
It's not the first time that I express my admiration for your talent to present these street views. Very wise choice of POV, an interesting presentation, fully in the TE spirit. The crop of the WS is a very good idea.
