Photographer’s Note

Still a photo from Japanese Village, Bukit Tinggi Berjaya Hill Resort. Photo taken from a pond in front of a Japanese Restaurant, just after raining, the leaves still wet. I am happy these fishes all come to me!

Kois that show at above photo is Nishikigoi. Nishikihoi is a new species of hybridization between Koi and Asian fish.


In Asia, the earliest record about koi as meals was found on a bronze implement in China, dated 823BC. Thousand years later, when Chinese found some other fishes are more delicious as meals, then the koi was abolished from main recipes.

The Common carp or European carp (Cyprinus carpio) is a widespread freshwater fish related to the common goldfish (Carassius auratus), with which it is capable of interbreeding. It gives its name to the carp family Cyprinidae. Common carp are native to Asia and Eastern Europe. It has been introduced into environments worldwide, and is often considered an invasive species.

Koi (錦鯉 (Nishikigoi) in Japanese, 鯉魚 (pinyin: lĭ yú) in Chinese) is a domesticated ornamental variety that originated in China but became known to the Western world through Japan.
