Photographer’s Note
Regardless of whether a person is Moslem, Christian, Marxist or 'Other', most people would find this building a true work of art. Shot just before sundown in Kuantan, on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia.
If you look carefully, you'll see the 5 red pinpoints of light for aircraft navigation: 4 on the mosque, & 1 on the telecommunications tower (which I left in purposefully, to provide contrast between modernity & antiquity.)

This is an unreal image, though I've no doubt it is as your describe it. The colors and details are so fine that it could be mistaken for a carefully crafted model, perhaps for a George Lucas film. No doubt the lighting of the towers helps create that impression. Very nice capture Chris and I agree with you, the tower adds much to the composition.
Hope you're feeling better and that weather gives you a break. It is easy to lose track of the fact our southern hemisphere friends are experiencing winter while those of us in the north enjoy our summer months. This world wide web thing is quite remarkable.

Wow, astonishing shot of an amazing place !
The choice of the dawn to take this picture is very important. It permits to renders so nice details with smooth lights and warm colours and prevents from having a "simple" black sky. Here we have beautiful clouds that increase the greatness of the mosque.

Hi Chris, comes straight from 1001 nights, the light is great, and the sky is really nice. Beautiful building indeed.
I understand your willing to keep in the telecom, but the towers not being straight disturb me a bit.
I have tried a workshop, and it still includes your telecom tower for a bit.

Yep Malay people seem to have some kind of genius for building such sci-fi mosques. I remember having been very impressed by the one in a suburb of KL, also with such minarets in the 4 angles.
I think shooting the photo at night enhances this feeling f an unusual place. well done !

Fabulous atmosphere and light, Chris, it almost looks like coming out of a computer game or movie storyboard. Great shooting angle that really presents this unique architecture and array of towers well, and good choice to keep the contrasting modern-day elements in the frame. Well done.

This has a surreal fairytale, Disneyworld quality to it, well done for seeing that. The lighting and composition are good better but the architecture takes the cake. Full marks!

I agree. They seem to have some great architects there, capable of designing interesting new buildings, with still are still sympathetic to the traditional surroundings. Well caught.

Hie Chris, this mosque reminded me of Arabian Night. Something warmth emanating from the building and cool comforting from those cottony clouds and blue sky. I believe all religions is beautiful. It is just how we believe it that make it different.

Hello Chris,
You're right, this looks unreal, and The malaysians should be congratulated for this achievement. But the color is also excellent, the timing and framing. I would probably have left the tower out of this frame which is already full enough. Izzet Keribar

Very good capture. These places are not so easy to get the correct angle to get the turrets etc all into the frame. You have managed to do this with a fine result. Well done.
