[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
#2 of series of portraits and people from my trop to Malacca, Malaysia

This man is a shop owner. He sells used things. Really really old used things. Everything really.

He was having a chat with his friend when i appeared in front of his shop and snapped pictures of him. His friend told him about me and this was his reaction to me. But he didn't care much since it was a tourist attraction and i guess he should be used to it by now.

There are alot of these shop owners in Malaysia, selling things that people don't or threw away. Sometimes i wonder who would buy things that people don't want. But then i think about it and realise maybe some of the things he sells could be antique or rather authentic to another person of a different culture.

I guess there's alot of the chinese cultural things that you'd be able to find in his shop.

Another good choice of subject but it miss some sharpness on his face...blur of movement...the reason is the long focal(200mm)and the slow speed 1/60,the rules say use a speed egal to the focal lenght, here 1/200,you could raise that speed by pushing up the sensibility, your 350D gives good result at 1600 iso,
hope it'll help,
bye,
vincent

That is at 35mm equivalent. Because the 350D as a 1.6 crop factor, the rule would be 200 x 1.6...or 320 mm.

Pushing up your ISO to 1600 would still only get you to 1/120...not a fast enough shutter speed to meet the rule either at 35mm or it's equivalent. Not good enough from 200mm at 1600 ISO, or 3200 ISO

The best thing you could have done here is get much closer. You are too far away from this man. A true portrait is shot at a much different focal length. Try between 50 and 70mm to see if you like your portraits better.

Since I like the concept though, I'll say...

Great Job.
