Photographer’s Note
St. Peter's Church (built 1710 onwards)
St. Peter's church is the oldest operational Catholic Church in Malaysia. It was built in 1710 after the Dutch allowed the people of Melaka to openly follow their faiths. It was constructed by the descendants of the Portuguese emigrants who came to settle in Melaka and made it their home. At the time this area was outside the core city of Melaka. Today, it can be reach by driving within 5 minutes from Melaka city center, it is oppesite to a bridge connecting Kampung Morten too.
The oldest item in the church is the bell, manufactured in Goa in 1608. It was salvaged from an earlier church burned by the Dutch during their 1641 occupation.

Hello Ally
This immaculate shot seems to prove one thing, that is we dont really need direct light for a good shot. Absolutely clear for a building facade in the shade. Excellent work

hi Ally
I think very soon, you can publish a book called Malaysia Buildings because you may finish shooting all the them soon.
This one is a good composed shot of the church from 1710 which I believe I have never seen before, in this color, and reading from your note, I do not believe I have visited that place.
Well done.

something elements in this façade remember the Portuguese style of that time. Yes, the dutch destroyed many churches in Brazil too in that time, they wanted to get a part of Brazil and stayed here for many decades but were expelled.
beautiful pov and I liked the light and the way you framed this image.

Hi Ally,
The presence of the people has an effect of scale. The palm trees are framing well the church. The point of view is allowing us to see the details and colors of the architecture of the church. The picture is clear and sharp. The good luminosity brings out the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

Bonjour Ally.
Cette photo est agréable avec le gazon au premier plan et l'ombre portée de la croix. L'église de 1710 est bien entretenue et a un style très européen.
Beau travail §

Dear Ally,
With due respect to everybody's comment, I see the picture diffrently. First, the composition is not balanced. The church has slipped towards the right (tilt?), exposing an uninteresting sky to the left.
Secondly,I am not too sure what Visual Value the patch of the road is adding in the bottom part of the frame.
Third, since this is a frontal shot aligning with the insignia of the church from the front while shooting would have helped.
Best Regards,
Satyakki

Hello Ally,
you always choose interesting places to capture with your camera :) Very nice! and this is a very interesting building (especially as seen in juxtaposition with the nearby very modern building on the right). Very good composition.
And thanks for the additional WS photos: they help to make a full impression of this church.
Warm regards,

Hi, Ally.
A pretty interesting architectural daily-life, excellent in terms of lighting. Shot against the light and yet crystal clear in all of its elements. Good job, TFS! Have a good day and a good start of the week tomorrow. I'll see you soon,

Hi Ally,
It's curious how it looked much more "Portuguese" in the thumbnail than it looks here, but there is still something familiar about it.
It's a very nice presentation, despite that having the sun almost in front didn't produce the the most favourable light. However, you did a good job with the exposure, so we can still appreciate the austere façade of the church. You made the perfect choice of POV and framing/crop.
Regards, José.

Dear Ally
Despite being in the shadow the church is impressive and the shadows actually add to the DOF. A very interesting solution to shot more or less against the sun. Colors are vivid and sharpness is great. Well done
Best regards
Urs
