Photographer’s Note

The Cheng Hoon Teng temple (青云亭) is a Buddhist temple in Jalan Tokong, Malacca, Malaysia. It is the oldest functioning temple in Malaysia.

Built at the year 1645 by Kapitan Lee Wei King with materials imported from China, Cheng Hoon Teng served as the main worshiping place for local Hokkien community. The main hall was built at the year 1704 and was rebuilt in the year 1801 by Kapitan China Chua Su Cheong, who contributed to the aesthetic and magnificent structural additions of the building.

Year 1962, then abbot Seck Kim Seng ordained Houn Jiyu-Kennett, a Zen nun from England and the future founder of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives, at this temple.

Year 2003, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple was awarded an UNESCO award on it outstanding architectural restoration.

Such a ornate and very well decorated temple and very elegant and beautiful. You have captured it with really great details sharpness and clarity. I see there's a man taking tickets. Very nice and subtle color without too much intense color, naturally beautiful. Thanks

Olá Ally, I remember well this one. This facade is truly wonderful in its geometrical lines and in the shape of the roof. Love the round decorative windows on the sides and the artwork of the sculptures on the roof that deserve some close approaches because they seem to be amazing and very interesting.

Ally,
good frontal image exploring all the symmetry that is being broken with the guard sitting there. I can literally see his boredom by beeing there another day and sitting to see the crowds passing for a prayer or looking around and taking some shots.

Another interesting presentation of a charming Chinese temple. You show very well the intricate design and colourful decoration. The frontal POV works very well here, taking advantage of the symmetry of the architecture.
The WS complements the view and is also a very interesting photo that shows more effectively the human ambiance of the place.
