"Aadal Kalaye Devan Thanthadhu.." - Art of dance given by god!..
Traditionally, Hindu gods are depicted to be proponents of Various forms of dance... Particularly Shiva`s Rudhra Thandavam has been told as the divine dance of cleansing.
For south Indians, Bharatham - dance had been heart & soul of their culture.
Wherever Tamil diaspora has been, there you find the culture adhered to very sincerely. But sadly, in TN, this is not really in vogue. We have become More Anglicised/ westernised in our language & culture... Our kids go to International schools, we speak "very stylised Tamil"...
Language & Culture have been reduced to Political tool!.We have embrased western values with an obscene pace, in process, being neither western nor eastern.
But, anywhere else in the world, Tamil seems to be in refreshingly nice form, though those societies have been more westernised.
Here I saw a local community function, with these girls performing fantstically. Ofcourse, It was not completely traditional. They were dancing for a popular general stream song. They were not very thorough in their steps or co-ordination. But, they were performing beautifully for such a small gathering...
I saw some thing in them which I see rarely back home - Pride about the culture & enthusiasm in performing their art.
