Dreamcars Asia Motoshow 2005 is back again in Malaysia last week from 7th to 10th July 2005. The motorshow was held in the spanking new KL Convention Centre covering Hall 1 to 5.
You can get more info about the event Dreamcars
There were quite a number of cars on display and of course not forgeting those race queens too.
There are race queens from Japan and some local. My favourite is this lovely and friendly Joanne.
The photo was crop, adjusted brightness and sharpen image.
This is my 3rd potrait in TE. I find that there are a lot more things to learn.
What do you think about the position of Joanne and the background ?
Please give your critiques and comments for this potrait.
I will add more photos later taken from the same venue later.
Thanks for viewing and reading.

I'm no portrait expert but I can tell you what I look for when I take them.
I think what makes a good portrait is that the background colors must both compliment the subject and make him/her stand out. If you can't get colors that really add to the picture I find you really have to blur the background in order to make the subject stand out.
In this picture I find that the background colors don't really compliment the subject too well, so maybe I would have blurred it more.
You also don't want anything too distracting in the background because you want the subject to be the focus. You don't want your eye roaming off to see a more interesting background, which I find it does in this picture. Another reason for some extra blur.
As for the compostion, I think it's quite nice. Follows the rule of thirds well and makes an interesting shot. I myself have a tendency to put my subjects in the center which is something I need to work on.

The horse of Ferrari know everyone, the lady not, but you make a beautiful photo. Everything sharp and clear.

Lovely babe you got here. Love her smile. Makes me want to meet her personally and would like to invite her to my studio for some glamour portrait.
Anyway of getting her contact for me??
Okay, back to your question.
The portrait shot is not bad and you would like to put in the Ferrari into the pictures as well. Try to get her pose in front of the Ferrari, instead of the body only.

I would only say: DREAM GIRL!

Hi Chai, I think your answer to your title question is very clear from the way you use your lens. You have well focused on the girl while the Ferrari is blurred out :D
A very well taken picture with clarity and sharpness. Well use of DoF.

In my opinion you should have used a bigger crop. When the car was fully exposed the compo would have been better. Keep on shooting. CU, Erik

Technically very good, but not perfect. Like DaveMacPhee says: the background cannot be more interesting than the subject.
Only this fails. The rest is very good, and the girl has a very nice position.

La fotografia è bene eseguita ed interessante, ma non regge il confronto con le altre due bellezze!!!

Impressive portrait Chai, strong colours and sharp image. I see the comments regarding background and tend to agree somewhat, however, the context of the cars is important here, otherwise this would only be about the girl. Great shot though!

Chai, I've resisted critiquing your "Dream Girls" series for a while. Somehow I'm not sure how relevant they are on a travel site. But then I looked again and figured that this is a good capture of a beautiful young woman, so what the hell - here's a smiley!

That's a great shot.. the model is the car.

I definitely like Joanne but I kind of agree with Dave that as a portrait, it is not perfect. The eye is not drawn to the subject instantly or the attention gets diverted.
I tried changing the background to black and white. Not sure if it did good or not but hell, it was done so let's not waste completely this past half hour of my life!
