I have recently returned from a trip to Malaysia. There are many beautiful and also many not so beautiful things to see in this country. But one thing which is beyond argument is the beauty of Malaysia's people. They were friendly, welcoming and very funny. On many occasions I was asked to "take a photo" by young Malaysians, thinking they wanted me to take a photo of their group, but was surprised and a little flattered that they wanted to take a photo of me! Interesting to be on the other end of the lens for once. Malaysia is a cultural melting pot of the Malay (Muslim), the Chinese (Buddhist) and the Indian (Hindu) cultures. And they all manage to live together in peace. Maybe that's something we can all learn from.
These beautiful young girls were at a festival at the Batu Caves on New Years Day. They're lovely, aren't they?

Eheheheh! :ppp

let me be the first to welcome you back to TE!
its kinda nice to have a break once in awhile, and I know for a fact several people i chatted with online here missed you :)
I was really unsure what to expect with your first photo, it was like being a kid on Christmas morning opening that initial gift! All full of excitement and wonder...
I'm glad the women held up that yellow piece of fabric, as it blocked out the powerful and harsh lighting behind them, it really helped, and added even more color to the scene.
Funny comment about the people there asking to take photos of you!
Its also funny how each of these 3 women have very different facial expressions and demenour.
great opening shot, looking forward to more...
off to work now...see ya!

Welcome back Lisa!
Yes they are lovely, and so are the clothes. The background is partially hidden by the yellow sari(?), which is just as well, as it looks as if it would have been a distraction if we could see more of it! But that's what grab-shots in the street are like I suppose. A happy image!

Ciao cara Lisa. I appreciate this close-up of the girls, something that maybe you should do more often with people since this is a most successful shot. The light is superb, the colours a feast for the eyes and the details of faces and attire just perfect. Whose idea was it to hold that brilliant yellow wrap around the three heads or did that just walk like that, three close friends? Who ever decided, it was a brilliant move as the cloth throws the faces into sharp definition. Lovely work. I like your note too. Ciao. Klaudio.

Now I know where you were. I was almost wurried and ready to call the police. I hope you had a nice trip. At least the colors are omnipresent. The girl on the left has kind of a manley face, but with a nice smile.
Happy to see you back on TE

I see you have been on holiday, you luck girl! A good capture this bevy of attractive young ladies dressed in their colourful costumes. You have managed to isolate them from their background reasonably well. Good colours and sharpness where needed.
tusharkmandal (3173) 2012-01-17 6:46
Welcome to our company of portraits. :) Its good to see you shooting human subjects. They seem like the Indians from southern roots either as tourists or their ancestors might have migrated long before there.

Great capture on this lovely ladies. Clear, crisp and very sharp. Great handling on the light too, as gives a nice glow on their yellow garment and fine details on their dresses. Commenting on your note, I guess that's one of the special traits that south east asian people have, they're really welcoming and very warm.
As to being on the other end of the lens- I guess seeing white-skinned people especially those who are pleasing to the senses and mind aesthetically is like seeing superstars for them- I could attest to that as it is also like this in the country I live in especially when you go the lowlands and to the provinces. They might have mistaken you for a prominent person or a hollywood actress! *wink!
Anyway, looking forward to your photos during this trip! Hope you did enjoy Malaysia! Next time consider a trip going to the Philippines!
P.S. you've started of early this year huh! Great for you! Cheers to more travels this year!

Nice to see you back here. I am sure you had a fun trip. This is a beautiful shot of these three girl(looks like Hindu girls) wearing very bright and colorful salwars. I like the embroidery work on their salwars. Very well lit image with sharpness and superb colors.

Chissà quante ne avrai fatte in Malesya!

Nice to meet people with so diff. colture in other parts of our little planet, you may lrean a lot.
Good pose you taken here, their dresses so rich with decorations, shining and bright on good contrast.
CLODO (34928) 2012-01-17 9:46
They are, Lisa!
I like the veil over them as a protection, hiding the street in the background, and their nice dress.
tyro (25950) 2012-01-17 9:47
I agree: yes, these girls are very beautiful. And beautifully dressed too. See how lovely and intricate their dresses are and how well groomed they appear to be: you have caught this lovely trio in wonderful light which flatters their features as well as their lovely colourful clothes.
Gorgeous colours, perfect exposure, lovely poses of each of the three girls and wonderful details and sharpness.
Now, Lisa, I'd give anything to see a picture which they took of you! Of course, I expect that you looked just as smart and I would curse myself if it even crossed my mind that you might have been wearing a scruffy old T-shirt, jeans and sneakers with your camera bag slung over your shoulder. :o)

Buon Mercoledi' e complimenti,Luciano

welcome back to trekearth. lucky you, what a way to spend the new year. i bet it was hard getting back into the swing of daily life again after such a trip.
your picture is excellent. the woman all look so different, in terms of expression, and appearance. yet they are all wonderfully dressed with such intricate detail in their dresses. i'm sure you've that many pictures your dilemma will be which ones to post.
glad your back,

Ciao chère Lisuzza-san,
This is indeed a very nice surprise, and a very unexpected one too. The title is superb! And with it, the triple portrait is very much alive. They seem to be in movement with you. The yellow cloth held over them not only unites the three physically but it expresses the friendship between them. All the intricate details and the displacement of what they are wearing enhance the portrait. How nice to see that they are wearing their cultural symbolism. You have used the word “a cultural melting pot”, but they seem to carry on wearing their cultural identities. In a world in which our identities are less and less expressed actively, it is very nice to find this portrait depicting not only the people but also successfully addressing the larger context, which comes naturally with it. A very nice way to start the year, I like the portrait; I look forward to seeing and following your images.
I hope that you are now well rested.
Have a very pleasant week, Lisuzza-san

Three brightly dressed ladies under a single yellow cover-what a shot to post on returning from your hols!
They are obviously enjoying the occasion judging by the pleasing eye contact and cheerful smiles.
Nice to see you back,

Women are beautiful everywhere in the world.
So it is with the ladies from Malaysia.
Excellent triple portrait.
The colors are lovely and excellent image quality.

Ciao Cara Monella, Two pearls & a rough diamond :), a little unfair I know but the one with the red scarf around her neck reminds of a cow I once worked with, I still have nightmares & that was 10 years ago :(
Nice shot to kickoff your Malaysian holiday collection,
I think people fotos are much more rewarding, have a look at their expressions, I ask can you get that from a landscape? Nice shot, colourful, expressive, I think the back lighting also works well. Nice to have you back. I think Belinda's trip has something to do with Breast Cancer Awareness, I don't think she is going too far, hoping to move into her place real soon, but that's just up the road.

Hi Lisa - welcome back from your trip. A great one of these Hindu ladies to start with - we also found lots of people wanting to include us in photos in Indo China. A good natural pose with great colour.
cheers and have a good year.

interesting portrait with vivid color you captured.

emka (100989) 2012-01-17 23:46
Ciao Lisa, it seemed to me I wrote yesterday, but no. Funny. Anyway welcome back after you Malaysia trip. I am sure you had a great time there. These girls are lovely. They look similar like Indian women but their dresses are a bit different. Yes, in Asian countries very often there are different religions very close.

Ecco dove eri finita ! Mi aspetto altre splendide foto. Questa è un primo magnifico assaggio. Splendidi colori e ottimi dettagli.

I have travelled a bit to Malaysia the last 18 months and cannot agree more with your view of the people..very good sense of humour, a melting pot. I posted one shot of some young guys who posed for me in Petaling St in KL. KL is not a bad city, but I loved Melaka more,
These women summarise a part of this mixed nation, beautiful..love the eye contact too.
zoomer (6) 2012-01-19 17:29
Hi Lisa, you handled the colors and intricacies of their clothing extremely well. The facial expresssions show three strong personalities.Glad to see that 2012 started on this positive note for you.All the best Wolf.
mkamionka (38433) 2012-01-27 1:23
Looking at your recent photos I thought that you may have mixed up the titles under your photos. The title about three Goddesses should apply to this picture whereas the other one is probable a pearl of Malaysian architecture. But reading into notes I finally got it.
Very interesting group portrait. The ladies seem to share the yellow scarf. Nice traditional clothes and I guess characteristic faces too.
ruisc_pt (11090) 2012-02-07 4:58
Very good image with a difficult exposure light.
A good macro.
jadesgran (5423) 2012-02-10 13:26
They certainly are beautiful, and their clothes are exquisite. You have captured a superb picture.I especially like the way you have filled the frame.Beautiful colours and very sharp.
P.S.Thankyou for your comments on my `Sleepy Chillaton` and I am feeling very well at the moment.
Kind of you to ask.
jusninasirun (17162) 2012-02-14 6:28
I would like to thank you for many reasons here. First is this beautiful picture. I like how you have used a single saree to cover the head of these three girls. You have metered the exposure really well against the harsh lighting. Next is the notes. I like the way you describe the people in my country and a good promotion for TE members here. Thanks again and have a wonderful 14th of February.
Waylim (25502) 2012-02-20 22:49
You know what this photo make think of, Sex and the City of Malaysia :)
Anyway, they are beautiful, each in their own way and style. Very lovely shot of the three beauties.
When my Partner and I were in China, he was very popular, girls and boys want to take picture of him and with him, like he is a movie star or something :) Which was actually funny until at one point he was annoyed by all the requests :) What go around comes around. We always take picture of others now the tables has turned :)
Noel_Byrne (32112) 2012-10-02 5:40
Yes indeed, they are beautiful girls, and even more so on reading your note which highlights how some nations are so good at promoting tolerance, understanding and diversity. A beautiful image complimented by a wonderful note.
