Photographer’s Note
I dedicate to PaulVDV as he has been here and here also like this place very much. I would like to wel come him again, and hopefully this time I will be his touris guide : ) No problem at all.
Whenever I go to Kota Bharu Kelanatan ( east coast of West Malaysia ), I never fail to visit to this market.
It is very unique to me...look so special and it is an special attraction.
I have posted this shot about year ago, but using Nokia N-70.
This time I hope it is a better shot.
Pasar Besar Siti Khadijah ( Pasar Besar means main market or central market) used to be known as Pasar Buluh Kubu. Located at the centre of Kota Bharu town, the market is selling almost everything you need from food items to non-food items.
One thing you would notice when you enter the market is that almost all are businesswomen. That's what makes this market unique.
At the Siti Khadijah market one can buy just about anything from fresh produce, kain batik, batik wear, scarves, prayer mats, local delicacies and more"
Unique in every sense, Pasar Besar Siti Khadijah is the most photographed market in the country. This place is a visual delight and a favourite photography subject in Kota Bharu. Located in the heart of Kota Bharu, it used to be known as Pasar Buluh Kubu.
The Market is particularly unique because most traders at the market are women.
This is a 'must visit' destination in this town and the three-storey building houses hundreds of stalls that sell all kinds of fresh produce, traditional local delights, spices, sweets, batik, silver and bronze items as well as many other types of household products.
Most activities take place early in the morning at Siti Khadijah Market.
The market, named after the wife of Prophet Muhammad, is open from 8am to 6pm with Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays being the busiest days.

Wow, this is a very neat market and quite different from what I have seen in South East Asia. Of course, being a market place, the colours are beautiful even under that yellowish tint, which I believe is due to the cover/roof of the place. Well done.

Hi Foozi,
Your high POV has worked well in this image. You give an excellent look of the markets and stall holders. I love the colours, so vivid and varied. Surprisingly there are not many people about, I would have thought the market would have been very crowded.
A very good look at a day in the life of Kota Bharu.
Thank you for your most informative note.
Regards
Peter

Bonjour,
Bonne idée d'avoir marqué la diagonale. Très belle couleur.
Il manque peut être un peut de netteté.
Thank you for sharing

Hey Foozi,
An absolutely riveting perspective. The only thing a bit bothersome is that is a bit soft to the touch. Otherwise, a very balanced composition, with vibrant colors, and a beautiful motive.
Thanks for sharing and I hope you`re taking the monsoon season well. :)
Best regards.

hi Foozi
Though I have never been to KB, I know a friend from this place. It looks like the state government is doing a good job and the MB is a respectable figure.
Very nice pattern of the stalls forming a diagonal in this composition and with good light for this colorful place. Very informative note to go with the shot, telling a good story.
Good work.

Hello Foozi
You have chosen an interesting pov for this photo and it certainly does teach about the world through photography. It is a pity about the yellow tint but as Antonio says this is probably caused by the roofing. Tfs, Marlene

Hey Foozi,
You posted this picture while I was on a spring holiday (to Greece). That's why I missed it and I only discovered it today.
Thank you for dedicating it to me and also thanks for your invitation. I visited this market in 1993. If I remember well the Pasar Besar Siti Khadijah building was rather new then.
I certainly like to go back to Malaysia but unfortunately it will not be possible to go to S.E.-Asia in the near future. Who knows, one day ... ?
As you said in your note, this market is a 'must visit' place in Kota Bharu. I found it the highlight of my visit of that city.
I like your composition with the diagonal lines of the paths between the food stalls and the good view on this multi coloured world, colours of the vegetables and fruits and certainly also of the beautiful dresses of the female vendors.
When I was there also all vendors were women.
Thanks and best wishes for you and your family,
Paul
