[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We woke early morning at Kundasang on the 2nd last day of Sabah trip, took breakfast and drove at 8am (search for Tuaran/Kudat direction signs) all the way to northern Tip of Borneo, arriving at about 1pm (the road condition is not that great and of course we stopped for the famous must-not-miss Tuaran noodles). At the Tip, I was taking a little risk and walked down past the Signboard that says 'Do Not Go Beyond This Point' and climbed down the stone walls to the edge, where you can see people standing in this photo. Then I waded across the slippery rocks on the sea water to this side of the rock face. Curious on why the rocks were split down a line, so I moved closer to take a look (hopefully the tide would not rise too fast, or else I had to swim over to get back). No, it was not pp work, the line split was natural. Perhaps, IMO, the rock split was caused by a slide between the layers and it created a line of differentiation? I stayed about 15 minutes here, and lucky me, I got to walk back at far end safely. I hope that risk was worth to bring this photo back to share with TE. Must be thousand of years for this rock. My earlier post about the close proximity of Philippine islands to Sabah could give a clue that million years ago, the islands and land mass pieced together as a giant plate of land? Well, I leave that to geologists and archeologists. Thank you for viewing.

hello Bill,
glad to read you made it back safely :) but I'd say the photo was well worth the risk, it's a fascinating close-up of this spil stone, I don't think a photo from further away would have the same impact. fascinating textures, they look a bit like melted chocolate :) very nice work, but do I detect a slight blue cast? minor point though.

with best regards,
Kristine

Un cadrage très bien réalisé,
Note très intéressante !

Hello Bill,
Is this an amazing formation, very strange occurrence..!
The cliff looks like an old rusty ship wreck that's been laying on the beach for ages...
This is a good photo documentary of this strange phenomenon!
Greetings,

Hello Bill, your shot really looks as if it has a split down the middle.
You were very adventurous to get the picture but it was well worth it.
Good POV with the people standing looking at the rocks.
Very good definition on the rocks.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hello Lau,
Very impressive to see the rock cliff that splited in a way like this, just like a knife-cut in a straight line! looks like our earth below had moved quite a bit since last Sunami along the coast itself!
many thanks for the sharing and the notes
best regards
Tony

Hi Bill,
It's a strange stone.I never saw something similar. Very interesting picture. Very well done.

The sky looks a bit washed out but let forget it. The photo is about the wonderful rock which shows lots of its geological history. Thanks for it.

Hey Bill,

Whoa, what`s that? I`ve read your note, well written - an interesting natural structure, taken from a fine point of view, I bet in the end you got a better photo than the other guy. :) Beautiful colors, saturation, sharpness - you name it, nice work.

Regards

Hello Bill,
This rock resembles rather the old rusted hull of a ship failed here for a long time. It is an original image. Very beautiful colors, in spite of the sky a little less natural. Beautiful work.
Have a nice day

Hi Bill,
I like the saturated colors here, you recent shots have all been wonderful. I wish I had the time to critique all of them.
Thanks for sharing,
Shaeri

hello Bill
this rock is strange,we could think that this is a bad stitch of 2 photos, because of the line separating the 2 parts!I like its soft aspect and its coulours! The 2 persons give an idea of how high is the rock!Very well done with a good note!
Cheers.

Hi Bill. Unusual rocks and colours and well captured. I love the contrast in colours between the rocks and blue sky and water. Excellent textures also. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Bill,
The risk has been paid of. This somehow a painted hill version of Asia in wet lands. The addition of people gives us sense of scale how big this rock is. Well done.
Regards
Albert

Hello Bill, Amazing rock formation, when i looked at the thumbnail I thought it was the hull of a ship, what a pleasant surprise. The water also has some beautiful green & blue colours. Nice interesting shot & a good note.
Thanks

Hello Bill,
impressive this rock in the sea with the photographers to capture it.With the first glance i thought that you have made a montage of two different rocks but reading your note i determined my fault.Excellent presentation with the men to add life in the scene.Very informative and useful your note.

Hi Bill

It resembles the bark of a tree, even though it's obviously made of stone. Good color contrasts, between the red & blue, with superb sharpness. Tfs!

Hi Bill,
Strange and scenic rock... Terrific POV, great colours and sharpness. It's always nice to to have a photographer in the image and here it is very important to give a sense of scale.

Hi Bill!
What a nice texture! Great, different! Its nice that you've included the photographers to give us the dimension of it all. I just would like to see a little bit of hue regulation on the ciano, giving a little bit of blue tones to the sky.

Zeca

hello bill

that's quite some rock you've caught there... i like the tectonic texture and the color seems to go well with your blue dominated background. i notice, the overall white balance is quite skewed towards cold (judging by the white t-shirts): just wondering what would the scene look like if you took a warmer approach? nice to include those tourists into the picture: gives betters sense of scale.

warm regards,
kristaps

Hi Bill,
I am still trying to understand this rock. REally amazing this phenomenon. At first sight I thought it was a rest of wrecked boat, full of rust. Thanks a lot you were able to get there and document this. Really impressive.
Regards
Ricardo

Bill - what a unique photo. Youve captured the amazing formation with perfect clarity... well done.
Cheers!
Dave
