A world wide WEB, how it originated...?

Taken at summit of Mount Santubong 810m. It was misty and foggy, landscape and aerial view was not possible, so going for micro-organism and macro.

This is tiny web spun across thick shrubs of green and I noticed tiny insects struck on a string. After rain, the web showed some micro-beads of water strung along the network, and light intensity was low. (After thought, I could have used fill-in flash to get higher f/stop).

I had extremely difficulty trying to aim a focus as slight handshake movement shifted the spot away, and the lens autofocus function kept on buzzing.

Here, you can count 2 insects, one is a long brownish with long wings, the other is red ant-like.

The web is so fragile. Not what you see from Spiderman movies.

I am a little hestitant to post this one because I am not comfortable with the background glare. What do you think?

Thank you for looking at the web.

Regards
Bill

Hi Bill,
intelligent and likeable title for an excellent photography. Great quality and precision in an image very difficult to make, magnificent photographic technique. To focus the fabric of spider with protagonists including and not to focus the background is a great idea! Excellent work of great artistic creation.

Salut, Jordi

I like the beading water droplets, and I noticed that the web is strong enough to hold the weight of the winged insect. Interesting shapes you have here. Very creative and most of all, a great title!!! ;>.

Thanks for sharing...

Hello Bill,

The background is fine; it is reasonably neutral so the viewer can appreciate the fine structure of the web. It is so intricate and fragile and is outlined well with the moisture attached. Good to see a few caught insects to add interest; I wonder where the spider is? Perhaps it is hiding in the leaves until night. Again, I really like the frame you have decided to use. The colourful segmentation in the image sort of reminds me of a kaleidoscope. It is a great piece. TFS.

I think the pattern of the bg glare is actually quite interesting. Would be nice if there was a more complete web.

Great work! TFS

Alfred

Hi Bill,

I think this background glare is perfect. Why? It has very geometrical structure which goes perfectly with this spaders web. And what an intersting web. It looks disordered but I know that some spiders build their web very different from others. Maybe a spider expert could tell us to which kind of spiders this one belongs. :)

Kind regards,
Jeri

Hello Bill,
Good idea of photo setting to profit to point out the analogy between the cobweb and Internet network. Very beautiful realization.
Have a nice day

Hello Bill,
Very nice macro. I think you made the right choice not to use the flash. That larger aperture gives you such a nice & soft background blur and made more interesting with the pattern the glare creates.

Latiff.

Ola Bill,
Que bela ideia fotografar esta teia , gostei muito dos detalhes das gotas de agua agarradas aos fios de seda, gostei muito do titulo , parabéns !!!

Hello again!
Awesome macro! I have been looking for a good macro lens for some time, your shot inspires me to look seriously now. Really, this is truly inspiring. I don't find the bg glaring at all. Loved it.

Hi Bill,
It is never easy to shoot a still web in the wild. If it is not the slight breeze, it would be the skittish nature of the spider or in your case, a struggling victim. Your best bet is a high shutter speed like 1/125. That means increasing ISO to 400 with the same aperture as you took this at ISO100. In fact, you can get a slightly underexposed shot if you had taken this at 1/80s as of 1/40 suggested by the camera.

Bill, to me I found the background has an almost painted glass kind of effect in a way.

Looking forward to see you March Bill. Maybe we go and look for some webs yes.

Regards
Bani

Hi Bill,
An eye catching compo, showing the art and its victim. Besides the drawing made by the web, I like how the blurred BG seems to vaguely replicate it. The colours of the BG and the drops of rain make it even more beautiful. I only regret that the bug is so OE and the web isn't all sharp, but those are minor picky details.
Regards, José.

Hello Bill,

Hi Bill,
Simple but very effective image this intricate web spun into lovely textures. The light is excellent giving silver scheen to the web and creating a beautiful muted background.

Dear Bill,

Nice photo and title. It captured my interest. So much detail, well done.

Jacques

Hi Trekks ...
Nice shoot . .
how u manage the time to take this picture ...
good showing of details

A funny title and composition, I like this little wink from the jungle ! BG glare does not disturb me much...
