Quite boring just to find a red sun with no cloud formation or scenery to go with it. So I parked the car and walked around a bit, saw this road with traffic and row of lamp posts just lit up at dusk. So I framed the sun amongst the lamp posts. While editing to post on TE, I thought to myself, what if during the shot, I moved a bit and hung the red sun onto one of the lamp posts to make it appear like a BIG lamp? Interesting, why I did not think of that during the shooting?

What do you think? Thanks for looking.

Regards
Bill

Reminds me of this song
Holding Back the Years - Simply Red lyrics

Holding back the years,
Thinking of the fear I've had for so long.
When somebody hears,
Listen to the fear that's gone.
Strangled by the wishes of pater,
Hoping for the arm of mater,
Get to me sooner or later,

Nothing ever could, yeah.
I'll keep holding on,
I'll keep holding on,
I'll keep holding on,
I'll keep holding on.

[ Holding Back The Years lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ]
Chance for me to escape from all I know.
Holding back the tears.
There's nothing here has grown.
I've wasted all my tears,
Wasted all those years.
Nothing had the chance to be good,

Nothing ever could, yeah.
I'll keep holding on,

I'll keep holding on,
I'll keep holding on,
I'll keep holding on
So tight.

Hi!
Very nice shot. I see what you tend to do: red lamps and red sun. You have done it very good. Good detail is traffic.

Hi Bill,
Beautiful shot! You've good eyes and this shot was captured at the right moment. Love the red tones here, your note is well written too. I like your idea of hanging the sun, but then zooming in would have been even better showing just that one post. For a wide angle shot, to me this is perfect.
Well done,
Shaeri

Hello Bill,
The strong point in this image is the afternoon atmosphere, that is very well recorded!
The street lights compete with the setting sun for attention, but the sun is a sure winner...
Greetings,
Pablo -

I think that your photo is very interesting.Fantastic capture of the sun.Really its seems a big lamp. Excellent work, Bill.

Hi Bill,
Lovely late evening shot of the magnificent red orb hiding behind the row of street lamps. Very good colors and depth created by the lamp post leading into the beautiful pink sky.
Regards, Tom

Hi Bill,
Good pov to show the corner of the road with beautiful gardening, nice pink sky and large cool sun, thanks for sharing the beautiful scenery.
Ally

Hello Bill!
Nice composition, with the traffic, traffic-lights and red sky! And the colours of this sun are beautiful! Nice lyrics by Simple Red!

Hi Bill,
What really stands out here are the nice , soft colors. There is a good balance between the gloominess and brightness here. the sun has been very well placed.
Great shot!!

Sagarneel.

Hello Bill,
This is a very good perspective with the road taking a turn. The color of the sky is brilliant and what about that sun - Yes Bill. The sun is so well captured taking the round shape and colors that is hard to get in pictures.

Regards,
Jusni

Hello Bill,
It is a very beautiful image by night, right before sunset. The image is well composed and framed with the diagonal of the road. You played with the sun in a pleasant way.
Good Evening

Hello Bill,

No, I think it looks good like this, the positioning directly under a lamp to make it look like a light would have been ok also, but this look good. There is a great balmy, tropical feel here, it looks warm and inviting. The trio of motorcycles is very cool. I may have taken one without the truck and with the motorcycles up closest. I must ask, what is that web-like material hanging on the underside of the lamps. At first I thought it was a type of plant, but then it could be a large spider web or even some sort of decoration? It is a pleasant capture with plenty of enjoyable colours and hues. TFS.

Matt

Hi Bill,
very nice shot, this is a magic moment os sunrise and the sun is very beautiful. I´d like of the truck in road and others vehicles.
Congratulations and Hug!

Hi Bill
Definitely an eye-catching shot. I note that one of the lamps in the foreground is not functioning – would be superb if the sun could be positioned there (as you had aspired). On another note, wonder what would be the outcome if your camera was positioned on the other side of the road? Possible then that the sun would not be “dissected” by the lamp post.

Cheers / Steven

Hi Bill
scenes like this is always worth revisiting. Well captured with good overall contrast and color saturation. Well done! tfs

Hello Bill,
Nice warm glow of the late afternoon sky. You caught the sun at the right moment. Lining up the street lamps & following the curving road makes for a fine composition. The "radioactive" green of the grass & the strong blues of the road make the colors appear somewhat awkward or messy ... IMHO. I don't know what might be causing that effect. Could be the saturation intensity. I'll do a WS to better illustrate what I mean. And please tell me you think of the alternative version. Have a nice weekend.

Regards,
Latiff.

Hello Bill,
C’était le bon moment pour prendre cette photo avec ce soleil non éblouissant,
Je trouve original et joli la forme des lampadaires,
Chouette coucher de soleil !
Amicalement et à bientôt,
Robert

Hello Bill,

I appreciate your meeting with other members, I'm old and this is to far for my.
The little bit dark picture but in combination with red sky and the full sun to the sky gives a nice composition.
Nice with the three headlights of the motorbikers in background.
Nice picture and very attractive for look it.
Thanks for sharing.

Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hello Bill
Strange how three dimensional the sun looks. I like the IDEA of 'hanging' the sun, but in practice it might look too contrived - or even too much like a real lamp to be effective! I think you have managed a good composition with a 'moody' feel.
Best wishes Maggie

Hi Bill,

From my lcd scree, the view is just right with a normal view of lowlite evening. the mood is exceptional well done with the red tones up there.

Hi Bill,

Hi Bill, fascinating sunset composition with splendid colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hey Bill,

I like your notes on how you conceptualised this shot. Some may not get your interpretation, what's behind the 'shot' yet makes quite an interesting end result. The colours are amazing, like the way the sky 'glows' as the commuters pass away a beautiful sunset sky behind.

Keep it up, follow what you think it's good, 'keep holding on' on that talent behind those lens!

Cheers!

Jom

Hi Bill,

Beautifull shot !!
Great vision from you.
The red tones are superb here..
Well done.
