Photographer’s Note
A simple street kitchen in Kuching, Sarawak state. I don't remember what the lady was selling, possibly dumplings of some kind. The man to the right is showing good table manners, even lacking a table, by turning discreetly away while eating.
This picture was taken in 1976 and was scanned from an Ilford FP4 negative.

Hallo Gert!
A wonderful scene - and an interesting one! Fast food with a difference. Even a bench ist there. What a difference to our today's demands ...
Greetings from a hot and sticky Germany!

hello gert,
I was about to say "the quality of this negative must have been way better than some others you had in those days" - then I saw your note saying that it's an FP4... one of my favourite Ilford films =)
it's interesting to see how food and eating etiquette change from country to country - it gives a very good idea of the habits and of the culture of a certain place.
I like the way the people in this image are placed along the street, following the leading line from left to right.

Hej Gert,
the scene is full of action! and, it seems to me, it's even possible (or, rather, interesting) to guess these people's lives.
Almost a minimalistic shot... like "Dogville" - only people, minimal decorations...
Excellent capture!
Warm regards,
Elena

Hej Gert,
A very interesting scene, I get the impression the the persons here are acting on a stage and involved in a well rehearsed drama. It somehow looks like a capture from a film. A very different photo and a very good one too!

Another wonderful documentary image showing the street kitchen, and the two different men buying food there: one smartly dressed: the other casual.
You must take good care of your negatives and have a good scanner, as this image shows no signs of age.

Hello Gert,
This photo is really interesting. The main focus in this picture is the man wearing the hat. A realistic moment. Also by transforming the colors to black and white made it more attractive.
Gert, by the way i wanted to tell you how i was impressed by those classical photos of the early 1970's that you've posted earlier, very nice and good way of showing us old days and learn something from the past.
Thanks Gert for all your photos. Also your number 500 picture is another unique one which i liked.
Wish you all the best
Many regards,
Hussein

Hej Gert
Kuching the Cat town. One of my favorite cities in the region.
there's a interesting story of relatively unknown swedish explorer Eric Mjöberg who was working for the government of Sarawak in the 20's and started one of the finest museums in south east asia.
Yeas would be interesting to know what she's selling.

Hello Gert, Every time I visit your gallery I am always astonished by all the places you have been to over the years, you have seen a lot, there remains still much to see? Nice street scene, again I suspect that in some areas little has changed. Another excellent image, I feel as though I am looking at an old magazine, perhaps Time Life.
Thanks

Hi Gert,
This scene make me think of old black and white movie that my mother's generation use to watch. classic black and white, timeless, a daily life scene that is still very much the same this day in many part of the world, as our society is constantly changing. Some manage to stay unchanged, but it may not last for long. Very nolstalgic and sentimental for me.

Hello gert,
A strong composition in which the eye wanders from one person to another. Good contrasts too.
