Photographer’s Note
It was raining that day at Miri. I spot this person while I was entering a shopping mall. I quickly took out my camera and took a photo. Not a perfect timing and composition, but I still like it.
Miri is a city located at the most northern part of Sarawak (west Borneo). It started as an oil town when natural oil was discovered inland not far from the coast. The reserve has long dried up and the place was made a tourism centre. Right now, most of the oil/gas is collected at the sea, west of Miri. I grew up and spend most of my youth days in Miri before moving to Kuching.
This photo is taken outside of Imperial Mall. The tall building is Yu Lan plaza, built by the infamous tycoon, Ting Pek King, and Yu Lan is the name of his wife. The office building wasn't really occupied ever since construction has completed, probably due to the lack of demand and high rental fee.
