Photographer’s Note
The riverfront of Kuching, capital of Sarawak state, in October 1976. I have seen on recent pictures that the mosque, of course, still remains, but I have no idea what happened to the other buidings in the last 33 years. Maybe this area is totally changed.
This was scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Hej Gert,
This is apparently a fine historical document, since it seems that the surrounding buildings have disappeared and given place to a park, at least that is what I can gather from this recent picture. But this is a very good scan and the little boat is an attractive part of your composition.

Hej Gert,
A really good documentary photo. Apart from the mosque I guess that about everything might be gone by not including the boat seen on the river. Surprising sharpness and really good colours taking into account that it is a scan of an old photo. TFS and have nice Sunday!

Hi Gert, beautiful old view of Kuching. Very interesting architecture of the mosque, these onion domes are in Indian style. The houses look solid so probably they are there still. Wonderful document.

Interesting to see this old view of the water-side. When I looked at Gunnar's link to Klaudio's recent post I was amazed to see nothing but the mosque still remains. Very good quality scan.

Hej Gert,
your sens for choice of b/w or color is evident. In principle, I like the colors from exotic countries. It is pleasure to follow your road, thanks to your gallery.
Thanks for your Intro and proud of your last visit.

Hej Gert,
a precious document! I agree to Bev, this image almost looks like a painting. Excellent management of the light and a very well composed impression of the mosque, surrounded by interesting houses. The colors are very beautiful. TFS!

Hello again Gert,
this photo looks more like an old picture - thanks to PP scanning work! I like it this way, soft and with dark shadowed areas: this adds more depth to this interesting view.
Whatever has changed, now, I think, we should more and more appreciate the old photos which we have. Sometimes comparing the old and the new makes us think of more than just buildings and weather.
warm regards,
Elena

Hi Gert. No wonder you were surprised at my Kuching riverfront shots. So much has changed and it surprises me that such nice buildings have vanished. According to Alfred, the whole riverfront is going to get a major face lift and become a place to be seen. You photo reminds me of an old postcard or a shot from an aged National Geographic(a compliment by the way.)Regards. Klaudio.

I haven't scanned my old photos from Sarawak and Kuching (1997) but I think it looked pretty much the same along the riverside.

Hello Gert, I'm looking & writing about this because I have just spent about a week touring & sightseeing Victoria with a couple of fantastic fellows from Kuching, Alfred (alftrek) & Bill (trekks). I have seen those onions before on their shots. This is something out of a history book, excellent reproduction.
Well done
Thank you
Santo
