Photographer’s Note
My 1st post from Nikon D40 camera. Dedicated to Chai [Ah] Hoe who in 2008 reached the summit of Mount Kinabalu with his wife Evelyn despite almost giving up in cold windy weather at 4095m.
Slow me down, just like the new TE website interface with plenty of bugs to be fixed real soon, but at least the upload was fixed to allow EXIF data and insertion of DATE, after several beta test reports I sent earlier. I spotted this scene about 2 hrs from Kuching as I was driving back to Sibu, coming onto upward hill slope section where I was slowed down by this bright green truck. I quickly drew out my camera and had to shoot through the windscreen while still driving. No there was no other cars around and I almost bumped into the back of this truck, it was so slow.
But the real reason you could see, must be the SLOW red sign and the traffic barrier onto this guy's head. I thought it was a smart idea. Against the wishes of my wife and sons in the car, even my dog Dude [he has been declared my 4th son, BTW] was not very happy I slowed down. Quality was not really good as I did not have time to reset the camera settings where earlier my son used the camera. Not really useful to have iso1600, f/14 but 1/1000s was good for me on the move. I thought this scene is not just funny with the barrier on the guy's head and his friend peering over the SLOW sign and smiling at me taking photograph at them, they are really smart to use such a bright green truck with signs, moving slowing along the road to warn and slow down traffic, for safety reasons. I like the way it was done and effective. I am sure you would slow and shoot too if you have your camera. On 2nd thought, the sign is now read as SLOW MEN :)) hehe dirty mind! The color reminds me now of 7-UP!
Also dedicate to skippy007/Santo because I know he will enjoy this sign, AND to siolaw/Laurent because he is most funny girl [hehe, sorry typo mistake, guy!] so far I have met from TE.

Hi Bill,
So you're shooting out of the moving car, works well don't you think.
Very funny shot, I love the man with the traffic cone on his head, he must have a strong neck, they weigh a ton.
Slow men, I'll bet many women agree with that statement (my wife does).
Good shot, good action, good saturated colours and good quality.
Regards
Peter

hello Bill
That's a good one and your story goes well with the title!
Funny to see this conic hat on the guy's head and the smiling eyes of his colleague above the sign.
The vivid colors are an eye catcher...
BTW, the quality is not bad at all!!
Have a nice sunday with your family

Hello Bill,
I saw your photo yesterday evening when I came to TE to see what's "new".. but I was too upset (and still am upset) by what's going on here, so I am writing only today!
I like this moment! and I think that this photo is excellent in very many respects (I mean the message which it conveys). Also, I really like your explanatory Note (as well as all the notes which you write for photos)!
Did you shoot with only one hand holding the camera and the other still holding the steering wheel? :)
isn't it... well... dangerous... a bit? it's good, though, that there were no other cars around.
Kindest regards,
and my special greetings to your family (esp. to Dude!)

It is a very amusing photo, it gave me the chuckle. You have a good eye for composition, the road signs and cones are emphasized in this vivid isolated road scene. Regards and TFS.

Hi Bill, I'm just glad I don't have to drive near you or Mr Wall, I don;t think you'd be concentrating on the road much! Despite this road hazard, it's a very sharp image with good saturation and a god dose of humour. A most unique occurrence in these grim days. Thanks for sharing it and have a great week, Lisa.

Hi, Bill. Driving and shooting is certainly not very careful. But the result you got here is quite humorous. The two men in the back of the truck seem to be having a good laugh. I suppose this is partly due to the fact one of them is wearing a cone on his head. The vivid colours make the picture lively.
Have a nice day,
Philippe

Hi Bill,
Yes, it is a smart idea you had to take this picture, I would like something like that on the roads here ;-) Really funny and USEFUL!
Another sign that would be useful here, I had already thought to put at the back window of my car, is something like 'keep your distance', because people are always too much near, and they are always in a terribly hurry. I don't like it.
But the best is try to be in a good humour, like you, both for the road and for the new TE ;-)
Thanks for sharing,
Docarmo

Hello Bill,
An entertaining and engaging shot that you could also classify as 'humorous.' You captured the moment well, and with the brilliant colors, it becomes a compelling shot. I wonder if the "80" represents 80 k/hr, the speed limit?
Warm regards,

Hi Bill,
This humoristic image is well composed. The bright green color of the truck is a good contrast to the red color of the sign. There is an expression about some workers, they have two speeds, slow and stop. The quality of the light is enhancing the bright colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

Hi Bill,
I can't miss this in the thumbnail Looking like a fujifilm box. Very well spotted with fine sharp eyes. Tact sharp focus and your postings are very versatile now.
Sorry for not being able to come back often. I'm squeezing this in between seven hours marathon at work.
Have a great weekend and best regards,

hehehe, very funny indeed, Bill. Including the note that is always very useful in your posts. And I agree with you about Laurent ;-) Unfortunately I didn't make it to the summit of Kinabalu because the weather was terrible. The fun of this scene totally justifies the dangerous conditions you had while taking it. Not only the 'helmet' but also the 'slow men' warning. We never know when something interesting to photograph shows up and we have to be always prepared - good thing you had your new camera at hand.

Hello Bill, You know me too well, I like females with tattoos & signs that can have more than one meaning. If I saw this in Melbourne I would think that this sign would be appropriate because they would most likely be employed by the government, therefore they would be very slow in carrying out their work. We always said that that these road workers don't have calluses on their hands but under their arms from leaning on the shovel. I like your suggestion of slow men ;-),
A good quality image with nice saturation of the 7 up colours, I enjoyed your humour in this scene as well as your note. Next time you must keep your eyes on the road. ;-))).
Thanks
Regards to you & your family

Hello trekks,
Funny capture of road workers while one of them wore an attractive road sign. The green part of truck, white sign and red parts are makes your photo an eye catching one. Excellent timing. Congratulations.

Hi Bill,
Humorous shot, law enforcers should try this option. Sure the D40 works well in this kind of descisive moment - well captured! Never noticed the bad quality, the colours and intent is all eye grabbing! This is something we've never seen and hopefull won't - so funny!
Perfect picture for times like these -
