Kadazan is one of the 30 over ethnics in Sabah and in this photo, a sample presentation of their traditional wedding arrangement.
The bride and groom is seated together with their bridesmaid and best man on their sides, and in front of them, are the traditional articles of dowry, presented to the bride.
The traditional dowry is very subjective in terms of types and quantities depending on the status, wealth, necessities and consideration of the marrying parties. Dowry is generally decided during the engagement stage and open to suggestion and due consideration.
While in the photos are the presentation of traditional elements, it is not a standard and not to every Kadazan wedding nowadays especially in the cities or urban areas. Most has resorted to contemporary wedding practices much like those in Christian wedding arrangement with the inclusion of one or two traditional rituals.
In this photo, a mock up traditional Kadazan wedding hosted by the Monsopiad Cultural Village in Penampang, the home district of the Kadazan ethnic.
