Photographer’s Note

Reaching the top of Mount Kinabalu the highest mountain in South East Asia - absolutely elated !
The journey up to Mount kinabalu 4095 metres high, 6 hours journey to Mid stop at Laban Rata, followed by a midnight climb starting at 2.30 am in the morning and reaching the top at 4.56 am (we were early)! I thought the top was a big plateau but all the top has is about the size of what you see here - a top space of about 10 feet by 10 feet and the two signs that indicate we are at the top of the mountain! What a climb. Cold at temperature of about 5 degress on that day according to my guide, i could hardly press the camera's trigger to take the shots as my hands feels frozen! Before reaching the top, we were planning on taking group photos etc but once we reached the top, we were more focussed on how to manage the extreme cold! Our shirts were wet with sweat inside and the strong chilly winds and low temperature makes it very cold and hard to manage. All i could think of at that time was to take whatever pictures and descend. Everyone else starts to arrive at the small peak and everyone else wants to take photos at this small peak so we have to give way.

The next time I climb, i will make sure to bring enough dry clothes to change at the top and also not to arrive too early. Waiting for the sunrise which didnt come because of heavy fog with strong winds blowing and limited space was really unpleasant !
