Photographer’s Note
Spare a thought for these fishermen
Their harvest have been decreasing drastically due to water pollution, this water pollution can be attributed to the illegal immigrants, as well as the rapid development of tourism at Semporna, the gateway to Diver's best site, Sipadan island.
Moreover, these seafood, including grouper, crab and prawn that are caught are then sent to Singapore. Singaporean friends, thanks to them when you have seafood feast next time .

Your note is thoughtful and provocating Jie. Keep shooting. In the 4 photos that you have posted so far, you are like most of us. You have the eye but you have to keep on shooting and studying your photos as well as others, to make it better. Just remember, a photo tells a story. Therefore you need a subject where it holds 60% of the photo. And the composition as well as exposure must make the subject, a lot more interesting.
In the photo above, you have the fishermen and its catches but the angle is too "oblique" and uncomfortable. Always ask yourself, where else can I go to get a better view?
Try it Jie Kuan.

I don't want to start an argument but the truth is not really that clear and a little bit in between. You may walk Semporna fishing harbor to notice some hammerheads caught in the nets, that's what I call for fishermen shooting themselves a bullet in their foot.
The ops bringing tourists to Sipadan have done a good job : they're Eco friendly (I'm thinking about pioneers Borneo Divers)treating water, etc.
In this respect I don't think that the tourists are really a threat to Semporna's fish stock.. (they are limited to 120 persons at a time on Sipadan and Semporna's lodging is limited to Dragon Inn)...
Moreover, Dive ops have managed to get Sipadan and Mabul as marine parks : it prohibits intense fishing and specially DYNAMITE fishing which is not a result of tourists...
I think it could also be worthy educating fishermen : some program funded by Eco friendly dive operators in the Philippines are starting to show up their benefits (yes, tourism can be GOOD too...).
Maybe you should also find some reasons of fish scarcity in Tawau's area logging and the replacement of old forest trees with palmtrees... a purely internal Sabah issue. This has contributed to flooding and pulling soil into the sea... not very good for fish life...
As for the photo, I agree with Rabani, you should also be more careful about your framing, there are many too features poking in from the sides.
Cheers
Luko, a keen diver and a longtime Borneo lover.
