Photographer’s Note
Dear TE friends, I am posting a photo of sea Bajau children here on a boat off Maiga Island, titled Proudly a sea Bajau, because they all seem very happy and content with life at this place. And they are a proud group of people, friendly, innocent. The color tone of the kids are so strong that I find difficulty trying to show details of skin texture, but that really does not matter for me, as I find their smiles and happiness more important in this shot.
Imagine this for the islanders' lives on the island
.no school
.no dress code
.no rules
.no money transactions
.everyday is free and holiday when you feel like it
.do they need education?
.do they need money?
Remember, the kids have no papers or certificates of birth. Just a human being living on an island. But that does not bother anyone here on the island. It is the way of life. Every child born knows how to swim. And I will post later, another kid photo for you to compare, and see what is your reaction to 2 different world.
Thank you for viewing. Regards, Bill
p/s After 2 days spent on islands, I began to look like a sea Bajau with my dark tan! :)

Hello Bill. You have anchored the boat and the kids really well here right on the sweet spot.
The boat, colorful.
The perspective, brilliant.
The ripples, stunning.
The horizon, perfect.
The cropping, excellent.
The framing, pleasant.
The smiles, p r i c e l e s s.....
I know the feeling of spending time with them as I had my experience with remote Orang Asli for a week. A different world with different values in life.
Well done Bill and have a wonderful weekend. Best regards. Jusni

Hi Bill,
I love the composition very much with the natural happiness within any human being.
Just one comment, I am not very sure why the shutter speed was adjusted to 1/60s? Is it because you want the face expression to shown with the sun behind the children? This has cause the picture to over expose on the background a little. This is just my personal comment and I hope I am not offending you.
But over all this is a great shoot!

Hello Bill,
Wow, what a wonderful experience it must have been to spend time on this remarkable island paradise. I hope these children live a peaceful and leisurely life in this special place. It is interesting to think that while some nations will rise and fall in power due to the economy, war and politics, there are still a few places that largely remain un-spoilt and idyllic. I hope very much that this place is safe for many generations to come, as the potential of sea level rises could pose a threat. Excellent shot, not much could be done to improve it any further. Thanks for sharing, I hope to see more from this paradise soon.

Hi Bill,
They are so cute!... Their candid smiles makes the image attractively joyful. You placed the boat very well compo wise and made a spotless job with the DOF and light.
I only question the black bars, as I am not sure if they add anything, specially for not being symmetrical (the lower one is higher than the upper one).
Regards, José.

Hello Bill
A lovely scene, so well framed. In fact it is the minimalism of the scene which makes it more attractive...and the radiance of their smiles, which is the real asset...almost priceless. Very Good work!

yes, the light was not good to show their faces but anyway their beautiful smiles are shining there. The boat lost in the sea is a fantastic view, it is like an image about fragility of children's life. Beautiful scene of daylife

Bill,
Wonderful smile on the children face. Such a cheerful image with nice bright sunny light. beautiful reflection of the boat and colors. Good detail consider that the background is so very bright and skin tone of the boys are fairly dark. Great composition with the boat of to the side. Well done.

Hi Bill, this photo is very friendly - fun to see those candid smiles and the 2 boys not afraid in front of this immensity, in their frail little boat ; your note is well worth reading and very interesting !
Compliments,
Cath.

Hi Bill,
I was first interested by your shot because it is a beautiful one. Full of life and happiness. But also colours, reflections...
Your note is very interesting too. I appreciated reading it and it makes me think about the non-sense of our lives.
Thank you for inducing this.

Marianne

Hi Bill
A great photo of a simple and happy life - it conveys a message for us all. Material possessions do not make us happy they just make us want more. TFS, Marlene
