Living by the sea has its true meaning here in Maiga island for the sea Bajau and Suluk folks. You can see the huts built on stilts in the shallow waters of the sea. The tide comes up as far as the stilts, so at such time, the water level is literally at the doorstep. The Bajau and Sulu child is born natural swimmers, they live and sleep by the sea. Each child knows how to swim, harvest from the sea, and play by the sea. Each day, the child will find some joy to play in this natural environment without any restraints, not from the family or visitors. Complete freedom. Early morning is often finding the child swimming to catch fish or play around in the waters.

The waters always crystal clear in green where the depth is shallow, blue where it is deeper. These huts are away from land and really is an interesting feature of Maiga island. I should avoid cropping the hut at extreme right. I came to know about Maiga Island through Rabani's gallery. And this trip was done from his useful tips on how to get there.

Thank you for viewing. Regards, Bill

Hi Bill,
The boat in the foreground is a nice introduction to the rest of the beautiful scene, and the water is so nice and clear and so is you shot. The image is well balanced and there are some great elements like the children with their boats and the stilt houses. It looks like an idylic place to spend a few days.
Regards
Wanda

Hi Bill,
First I love the natural tone of colors here, ...a really well composed picture, all works great, compliments!!

Hello Bill,
A very appealing well balanced composition. I like the soft light and understated tones.

Hi Bill.
Light paints and calm mood.
A tribute to the slow living.
Best regards.
Bobo.

Hi Bill,

Another great shot from one of my favourite countries on the planet...and this shot again adds something new. Great!
(I wonder if you have a version without the boat in the front. The line of stilt houses in itself could also make an intresting composition, I think.)

Benny

Bill,
Bill,
This is very beautiful image fill with a sense of calm and tranquility. The colors are nicely saturated. Good to see that you not tempted to push the saturation too far. The boys on the boat provide the human element and fun spirit to the scene.

Hi Bill,

it is outstanding and most poetic image of Maiga islands. Captured through your lens looks absolutely fantastic, a paradise. Colours are fabulous and the whole pallette is beautifully seen due to brilliant POV, from close-up detail of a boat to marvelous houses on horizon. Exceptional and of excellent technical quality.

Kind regards,

Hello Bill, amazing shot, so beautiful place and so beautiful composition. I like a lot the color and transparency of the water and the very well placed in the frame boats that lead the eye to the huts. Very nice depth too. Thanks for sharing. Greetings,
Kostas

There is something very pleasant and serene about the light and subtle colours here. Although there is some over-exposure in the sky it doesn't seem to matter as it is all part of this beautiful scene. I like the inclusion of the boat in the foreground as it anchors the image in all that water. Good work
Kath

Hi Bill
Your country is fantastic. I like it so much
With this picture we can understand the daily life of these people. Light is quite good.
Instead of you, if I took this photo, I put some more water under the boat and a little bit less sky.
Anyway, don't worry, your shot is quite good.

Bill bonjour.
Cette photo nous montre un paysage de rêve. Les enfants y sont heureux comme des poissons dans l'eau. La barque du premier plan est bien en place devant les maisons sur pilotis. Les couleurs sont superbes.
Beau travail.

Hello Bill,
It does not have there an other expression, your image is superb! An exemplary composition and incredible soft colors. I like much the water which ends up merging with the Félicitations sky.

Hi Bill. What a wonderful place and wonderful photo. The glass clear and calm water is a real invitation to explore this scene. Great composition with the canoes in the FG and huts further into the scene. Good colours and sharpness also. Thanks for sharing.

hello Bill,
love the clarity in this photo, the water in the foreground looks like well-polished glass. beautiful colours, I particularly like the contrast between the rust brown colour of the boat in the foreground and blue cast over the distant mountains. the composition creates a nice sense of depth, and although I agree about the house on the right, it's not a major point for me. very nice work, my compliments.

with kind regards,
Kristine

p.s. "Maiga" is woman's name in Latvia, but also feminine form of adjective "gentle", "soft".

A very interesting post Bill...the stilted houses which we saw in your earlier post form a good BG, but what's interesting is the FG with the empty boat & the couple of them with the fishermen. Beautiful BG as well with the hill. A lovely place...well captured!

Hi Bill, fascinating view with lovely boats and beautiful wooden houses on sea, splendid colors, superb light and excellent DOF, wonderful composition, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Bill,
This shot is fascinating indeed, the bajau's house and children playing with their boats is the best combination and even the lonely boat on front make it more special. I like this shot alot, tfs.

Hello Bill
This is a marvellous vision of a world made of water and light. Life must be very different, lived in these huts above the water.
You have captured the colours and light beautifully, and the boat gives 'weight' to the foreground.
TFS Best wishes....Maggie

Hi Bill, This is a very interesting place to see, ideal for TE. The colours are very good and the photo is well balanced. It always worries me what happens when these places get a severe storm even if only a couple of times a year? This composition exudes a feeling of peacefulness. TFS. Murray.

hi,
great picture, i like the composition, good pov, a powerful foreground who increases the impact, beautiful colors.
in my opinion you should used a ND grad filter to decrease the sky brightness and that would increase the contrast between the sky and the white clouds.

congratulations,
joao
