Photographer’s Note
Last year I was marooned on an island. But nothing like Tom Hank's. There was enough food and water to not worry about starvation for a week, and friendly islanders for company. This island is the kind of place, you would just love to be left alone. For a while at least. It was something like James Mitchener's Tales Of The South Pacific. It is that kind of place, doing nothing at all or something mundane like sitting in the shade of a coconut tree for hours, feels so heavenly appealing. Or just the thought of being lulled to sleep by the sight and sound of the sea, is making you drowsy enough. Or even guilty.
The island up yonder, looking like an island from the South Pacific, is Bohey Dulang. It is one of the eight islands making up the Tun Sakaran Island Park in Semporna, together with Maiga the one I'm on, pretending to be Robinson Crusoe. The stilted rickety houses off shore is temporary homes to two families of Sea Bajaus, a maritime nomadic tribe commonly found plying or living off on the southeastern waters of Sabah
The island is relatively "deserted", just like Bohey Dulang. By noon, most of the islanders whose stilted homes are by the beach, are under theirs, playing card games, draughts or mending their nets. It is one of the two cool shady places under the scorching south eastern sun. The other one is under the spindly tall swaying coconut trees with unreachable ripened coconuts just waiting for the right sway to let go.
In the late afternoon, the water a few feet below off shore, is ice cold compared to the surface. It is crystal clear and you can see far enough underwater to understand why this part of Sabah, is submarinely beautiful. Coral reef of varied shapes, sizes and colors carpeted the sea floor like an underwater bushes and as you snorkel above them among the darting and skittering fishes, your wakes create psychedelic patterns on it under the afternoon light. It feels just like, probably as close as you could get to, flying.

hi Bani
I dare say your landscape photos have made a lot of influence, direct or indirect, on your viewers. A look at this shot will tell us how to compose and which angle to shoot. Your tips are always useful to know, like a polariser.
Looking for a blue/green sea and huts on water, and hills behind, is your style and we admire it. I am be looking forward to see a bajau hut on the sea soon.
Great work.

Assalamualaikum bang,
Very pleasing landscape. I can feel the soothing breeze just by looking at this shot. Elements of life and living were nicely photographed and very well written. Adorable and very inspiring shot and note.
I still have to go through a long, long way to get the 'core' of successful landscape shot. But yet, I am thankful to have a great thoughtful shots and tips in your gallery. Those inspirations will always guide me... and some fine day, I wish I could be shooting 'true' landscape shots. Thank you, for making my eyes and mind widely open to learn a better photography.
Best Regards and Wassalam,
Ramdan.

Assalamualaikum Rabani. I can see many previous posts of yours with this gear and the images are clean with excellent sharpness and yet soft in a way. I like that and this is another superb example of the top quality image from Pentax. The white balance must have been properly set before the shot here, I guess which I rarely remembered.
I kept looking at this image and there are so much in it that I like so please allow me to add this to my favorite theme. Is it the clear water-Those kayabuki style houses on stilts - the rock covered with green foliage or the white puffy cloud against the blue sky? I don't really know but it is so pleasing to look at it again and again. Well done my friend and very best regards. Jusni

Hi Rabani!
Beautiful shot you have here! The composition is perfect with those little wooden houses, they almost seem to be standing on the air. Life is probably not that easy that but it really seems paradise. Colours are fantastic!Very good work!
