Photographer's Note

Whenever you are someplace on vacation, make an effort to wake up early just before sunrise and find a vantage point overlooking the place you are in. Preferably a hill with the rising sun behind you. Usually, the light of the morning sun, throws an interesting colors on to the scenery you are looking at.

You are looking at the western part of Long Pa Sia, the part leading to the abandoned airstrip. The dirt road in front of those houses leads to it.

Right behind the houses by the bamboo groves, is the Pa Sia river, from which this village tooks its name. The village is lying on a horseshoe shape basin and from the hill, just in front of the Headman or Ketua Kampung's home, you have a commanding view of the countryside. About half a day trek on a jungle trail, through those undulating hills is the Sarawak's border.

For the peace of mind of the villagers, nearby is a Royal Malaysian Army post, guarding the village and the countryside.
