UN World Heritage site - Mount Kinabalu National Park, Sabah. Tallest summit point at Low's Peak=4095.2m

I dedicate this post to my team mates Alfred, Jong, Hoe and Evelyn. Despite the strong cold winds and freezing rain, we started from Laban Rata at 2.30am, managed to reach the peak at 7.30am, being the last climbers of the day. At least all of us made it up and showed a strong will to the end. A day earlier from Mesilau Resort, we started at 8.30am, reached Laban Rata at 4.30pm and it was a poor 8-hour record compared to my last trip of July 2007 of 5-hour. No sunrise scene, it rained and was freezing up there at summit, you can see it from the dull sky tone.

This shot was taken on my way down at Panar Laban of 3272m altitude, looking up the summit. At the top center, you will see 3 tiny figures just at the sky edge. The team were on a special mission trail called VIA FERRATA on steel wires anchored into rockface, a new challenge for the highly adventurous. I was not able to take good photos at summit. I hope this will show the challenge of trekking it. Thank you for viewing.

Bill,
I can see the three people up there, even before I read your note and think that they are essential for this shot to give the right idea of grandeur. What an undertake to climb up in such bad weather conditions and with limited photography possibilities. I admire your determination to go all the way.
Sorry for the ignorance, but what makes this place a UN world heritage site?

Hi Bill,
Compliments for the successful climb. The weather was tough, and you were tougher to beat it to reach the beautiful place. I agree that a better weather would give you better photographic chances, but you can never predict. I love the ruggedness here.

nice shot with a lot of beautiful little flowers in the foreground and the tree fellows of you that are so tiny in front of this Mt.As you write the weather conditions were bad so the whiteness of the sky.The workshop of Didi, i think, make the sky a little bit blue.Informative your note.

Beautiful detailed look at this impressivd rock face that is seen in amazing details and sharpness. The lush green vegatation contrast nicely with the cold gray rock face. Exellent note about this unique place.

Hi Bill,
The presence of the tiny human figures makes all the difference, because without them the huge scale of those rocks could go unnoticed, taking the vegetation for some little bushes. It's only pity the white sky, because everything else is on the spot. Those flowers on the FG are an unexpected nice add.

Another great shot of Mt Kinabalu and the minute figures on the rockface give it perspective and certainly show why not everyone succeeds in making it to the summit. Congratulations.
