Photographer’s Note

In Luang Prabang morning Market, this woman was cooking some cakes to sell. Her attitude of concentration and precision captured my attention.

Morning markets remain open all day despite their name and provide a focal point to discover the tastes and smells of Lao food. Walking through this market everyday discovering new surprising things to sell each time was a pleasure to me.

I didn't try the cakes because I was full from the breakfast, but according to Way, they are really tasty
They can be found throughout Southeast Asia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Combodia, with minor difference in the ingredients. Some are more salty mostly for breakfast or snack. Some are sweeten served as desert. The main ingredients are rice flour with fresh coconut milk, green onion, ground pork or chicken, salt, sugar. Sometimes they are served with fish sauce.
On the street, like this, they wrap in banana leave for you to hold or this day more in plastic bag.

This is a wonderful daily life capture, showing something different from the usual market shots. It's amazing how she can make cakes in these conditions. Did you taste any?
You composed the image well with the lady tight on the right leaving plenty of space to show the activity as well as details of the setting in the background.

Um belo instantâneo de rua (ou deveria chamar-lhe 'daily life'), com um excelente PdV "na diagonal". A senhora tem um ar muito digno e compenetrado. Vejo que no Laos tb. usam aquelas casinhas coloridas no cimo de um poste para acolher os "espíritos", como na vizinha Tailândia.
PS: Vejo que tens conseguido resistir ao vírus do TE. :-)

These little cakes are really really tasty, you should have try them even if you're full. I absolutely love them, I always had them for breakfast before I go to school. Even my Swiss friend couldn't have enough of them when we were there. I tried these sweet 'pancakes' more than once in Lao & Thailand...they are quite delicious. I was pretty intrigued by their shapes when I saw them first, as they were pretty similar to 'idlis' which is a common dish in South India. Very good daily life shot, neatly composed in a diagonal. One look at her face shows her concentration to her work. Good work!

Também vi estes bolinhos a serem feitos quando estive em Burma mas, como tu, tinha acabado de comer o pequeno almoço e... não tinha fome!!!
A senhora tem um ar profissional incrível! Nem viu que estavas por perto com uma máquina fotográfica na mão. Coisas da vida!
As cores estão muito boas em especial o vermelho daquela cadeira de plástico.
Só foi pena teres cortado o topo da miniatura do templo. são coisas muito comuns entre os budistas.

Buena nota amigo, ya me imaginaba los pastelitos en mi boca que rico han de saber, a mi me gusta comoer todo lo que los locales vende por que igual y jamas los vuelves a probar y no me quiero quedar con las ganas y de hech nunca me he enfernado asi que apreovecho.

Exelente foto, a mi tambine me guista la concentracion de la senora y los pastelitos por supuesto mmmmmmmmmmmmm, ademas de las mujeres atras y de los colores ah y los pastelitos ;))

Bit late on this one, but it's nice enough to place a comment to. It's a daily life scene we can see all over Asia, even in South-America i have seen this, but that was more on the coast side than on higher elevation. The pancakes look very inviting. Made like this is always a struggle in buying them yes or no.
The movement from the can making new ones is a very nice detail, makes the image less static...nice.

uma bela captura do cotidiano de Laos. Concordo com você sobre a "quase meditação" da mulher no processo. O ponto de vista baixo deu dinamismo à composição. Finos ajustes de fotometria deixaram a image bem equilibrada e com cores naturais. Bem feito!

a luz está perfeita, mostrando bem a trabalhadora e seus bolinhos e o ambiente ao seu redor. Não costumo comer muito na rua pois penso que sempre há algum risco de contaminação dos alimentos. è um belo flagrante da vida cotidiana
