The Buddhist temple Wat Sisaket in Vientiane was first built in 1551 AD by King Phothisararat. It was rebuilt by King Anouvong in 1818. Wat Sisaket is surrounded on four sides by a thick-walled cloister. On the interior walls of the cloister are small niches that contain over 2000 silver and ceramic Buddha images. Over 300 seated and standing Buddhas of varying sizes and materials (terracotta, wood, plaster, silver, gold and bronze) rest on long shelves below the niches, most of them sculpted or cast in the characteristic Lao style. Most of the images are from the 15th-16th century Luang Prabang. The interior walls bear hundreds of Buddha niches similar to those in the cloister, as well as beautiful jataka murals depicting stories of the Buddha's past lives. At the rear interior of the Sim is an altar with several Buddha images, bringing the total mumber of Buddhas at Wat Sisaket to 6840.

Hi Vincent,

I really love your use of depth of field here .. the crisp details .. especially of the hair really are amplified by the diffusion behind .. as is our focus on your subject .. wonderful place .. beautiful capture.

take care,

John

You have composed this very well with the space to the right of the "main" Buddha perfect to fit in the Buddha in the background. You managed the DOF well with perfect sharpness where you intended it to be. Good work

Hi Vincent,
Beautiful cadrage, amazing sharpness, perfect DOF. We can appreciate every detail of the fg head and have an idea of the environment, with the others statues and the niches in the bg, which make a very nice backdrop.

Hi Vincent,
beautiful composition and excellent lighthandling. Beautiful place.

Hello Vincent,

The most captivating and mysterious sight you encounter when traveling through SE Asia is the proliferation of Buddha statues. I saw the large reclining Buddha in Wat Po in Bangkok. I like the way that you have layered this image with excellent sharp detail on the closest subject and an out of focus background to suggest your setting and the company of several more Buddha. This is a splendid capture Vince, congratulations.

Matt

Hello Vincent,

The "portrait" of the bronze Budha figure here is ideally placed in the frame. It was discovered just ten years ago by the British born psychologist/art lover in San Francisco that in the greatest portrait ever painted — from Leonardo's Mona Lisa to Rembrandt's self-portraits, Picasso's "Dora Maar to from Van Gogh's self-portaits — the vertical centerline passes through one eye of the subject. (It can be the right or left eye.) But it appears that it taking a photograph of a statue even, we focus on one eye, we center in the frame. Please, don't worry about critiquing it, but in cropping my photo of the bust of Alexander the Great, that is what I purposefully did.

Warm regards,

Bulent

Hi Vincent
Great portrait of this Buda with excellent focus. I like your POV and DOF
Have a nice day

Bonjour Vincent,
Bravo !
Amicalement,
Cath.

Hi Vincent,
perfect illuminated Buddha and very good placed with also very good focus.
An interesting focus too.

Bonjour Vincent,

Very well composed in a diagonal & a very effective use of DOF to isolate the bronze Buddha image in the FG. The niches in the BG remind me of the ones I saw in Indian palaces, used for keeping lamps. Good work my friend

Excellent shot with a beautiful bokeh. I almost forgot about this place. The day was terrible and it was rainning at the time of my visit. The lighting is great and the details in FG stand out very well. Love it. I never get tired of looking at these happy faces.

Well made close up with the right dof Vincz. Interesting detail in a soft light good for this setting

Hi Vincent,

Hello Vincent -

I like the use of the shallow DOF in this image. The DOF focuses our attention on the FG Buddha but allows us to see some of the BG and some of the many niches in the wall. The light makes this image as it adds a warm and serene glow to the scene. Well seen and presented.

Thank you for sharing.

John

Bonjour Vincent,

Magnifique image, très beau graphisme ! C'est superbe.

The excellent quality in colors sharpness and fine short DOF having a lot of color-depht in the OOF area, brings out the statue perfectly to enjoy.
