Photographer’s Note
Back to my Luang Prabang pics...
I saw her in the market of Luang Prabang. She was away from the crowd. There's something about her that sets her apart from other LUang Prabang kids that I've seen. Maybe it's her clean pale face. Then I saw her move...she handed in a cooking pan to an old woman just outside their house...then she retreated back to her favorite place...looking out through the window.
Actually, at closer look, what caught my attention was the Nike logo and her hat and the BURNT RED SHIRT. :) My title could have been "The Girl in REd" but I changed it to catch attention.
To see more of my Luang Prabang pics (and Vietnam, Nan and Boracay) please visit my pbase gallery that I just opened. My pictures there are arranged systematically. Kindly leave some comments on the guestbook (it is still empty) and other pics. PLEASE. Here it is:

Thanks.

I just love this portrait, Manny. The expression on her little face, the colors, the rim of light of the edge of the hat, the blend of colors in that wood that she's holding on to. I'll definitely visit your pbase gallery.

Very nice photograph Manuel. Her pose is full of grace. I like also the texture of the wood on the right part of the frame. Congratulations for your pbase gallery.

Great shot, Manuel. Even at this angle, her expression is priceless - making her look older than her years. Beautifully framed with good detail on the wooden door too.

Very beautiful pose. And very well framed as usual. The large wooden surface is very beautiful, too. I like the red color in the shot: in the shirt and in the Nike logo of her hat.
I think the image should be a bit darker (especially in the mid-tones) so perhaps you should adjust levels a bit...

I like this portrait where the girl seems to be very thoughtful.
The light, the colors and the contrast are great and soft.
Thank Manuel for this shot and for your note on my latest portrait. Alexandre

The photo is wonderful Manny, but I find myself reacting to the girl as well. She not only is dressed with a bit of western style, she has earrings and painted fingernails. There is a maturity to her face that belies her youthful appearance. Perhaps she has seen and experienced things a child shouldn't. It happens.
The colors are very natural and there is a lovely softness to the image. I sense very little post processing here, just excellent equipment and photographic technique both of which you have... ;-)

Great one manny.
I think that this one is better in coloured than in B&W.
So good choice.
And everything is good as usual.

A beautiful and delicate pose in this semi-profile shot of the girl, Manny. What an expression on her face, she does convey a very mature impression. Great colors and as always the best framing - that wooden door or window shutter has a great texture. Well done.

Manny,
I think one of your better portraits. I'm not sure if the image you've uploaded is a bit pixelated or if you've done much post processing, put I like the effect here -- almost like a painting plug-in. It gives it (from my view) a sort of impressionist (right painting genre?)look -- somewhat soft, muted colors, lighting pattern evident, etc. Nice.

Un portrait magnifique de cette petite fille si jolie si pâle qu'on pourrait la croire malade.
Son regard semble si perdu, si loin, de la tristesse ou de la résignation?? Très belle image/jr

Manuel:
Beautiful girl, nice expressions, she seemed distant and nostalgic.
Vary nice photo.

Great portrait, Manuel. Wonderful hushed colors.
The only problem I see here are those hase-like blacks - in fact there is no real black in your pic. Running it throught PS CS autolevels reduces this hase, but there is one spot in front of girl's face where black is deeper than the rest which looks like you've used "Dodge shadows" tool not very accurately. Maybe it has natural reasons - you mentioned smoke from the kitchen, but anyway I would clone out that black and then correct levels.

She has a very tender expression, and the way one hand is softly playing with the wood while the other one seems to be closed tightly, holding on, gives this a strange yet very interesting tension.

Such a beautiful portrait in profile. The lighting is excellent and really makes this shot a masterpiece. The composition is simple but effective to create this nice shot. Red against black and wood was a good choice.

A deep thinking girl well captured. Expression and composition were real nice as always. Except a bit hot spots on hand.

Manny, haven't heard from you in a while. Tell the truth, did this result from a requested pose? Just curious.... very nice.
