Luang Prabang , the jewel of Indochina, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995, this ancient royal city is surrounded by mountains at the junction of the Mekong and its tributary, the Khan river (called Nam Khan).

With a population of about 22,000, Luang Prabang is a city where time seems to stand still.

We walked around the traffic-less roads and then climbed 228 steps up the Mount Phousi hill, in the centre of Luang Prabang. Beside offering excellent views of Luang Prabang, the Mekong River, and the surrounding jungle, the 100 meter high hill has some significant sites.

This is one of such view. The gilded Lao-style spire is that of the erstwhile Royal Palace, now converted into a museum. The front horizontal section, former reception areas of the monarchy, are now primary exhibition halls. The central golden spire covers the throne room. The roofs on either side of the spire and immediately in back of the spire (not very clearly visible here) were the private apartments of the monarchs.

The muddy waters of the Mekong, flows quite rapidly in this hilly terrain. Directly across the Mekong on the other side of the Palace Museum is the village of Xiang Men, which can be seen amidst the thick greenery. Small cultivation/farm lands can be seen lining the other bank of Mekong.

Dear Angshu,
Excellent bird's eye view you present here from your vantage position up the hill. Perfectly balanced. The greenery around the place is so soothing to the eye.
Best Wishes

Hello Angshuman.
Great towering view of this scene. The colorful spire peaking up through the foreground greens is a nice touch of color. Looks like it took quite a hike to get to this vantage point. Can you get filters for this lens, I don't think so. It would be nice to see the effect of a polariser filter on this scene.
Regards friend,
Chris.

Hello Angshu,
The mighty river slowly flowing...
Interesting point of view giving fine details of the river and surroundings, lush vegetation and brownish water!
Well composed image accompanied by an educational note!

Superb photo. Exotic and for me a little bit nostalgic. I visited Laos in 1988 but wasn't in Luang Prabang, alas.
Regards.

Nature - where ever you look. It is wonderful. This is lovely scene of the capture, colours, composition are perfect.

Hi Angshu, you achieved a superb shot from the top of the hill, I remember this POV and I'm sure even tried a few shots... Great exposure to capture the color, the texture and the flow of the Mekongr, this could have been tricky, yet you succeeded. The temple is a colorful enhancement - and nicely composed with branches on the sides. Excellent, well done! Daniel

Hi Angshuman,

A good POV of the royal palace and of the Mekong river, the photo has a good composition, DOF and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Angshuman

Good overview of the town & Mekong River. Excellent sharpness, colour & lighting. Luang Phrabang was one of my favourite towns in Laos. Tfs!

Hi Angshu,
this is definitly a place to visit once. The combinatuion of jungle, ancient city and mountains is very appealin and very wellpresenmted here.
Regards, Gerrit

When in Luang Prabang Mount Phousi is a must visit spot. Was this taken before you reached the top or did you extend your zoom? It certainly provides a wonderful view of the area showing not only the Royal buildings but how the banks of the Mekong are used for cultivation. Nice work.

Olá Angshu, I love the way the brownish muddy Mekong divides the two green areas on the composition. If it wasn't its color the spier wouldn't be noticeble, but it's nice to see it stand out in golden tones. Your framing is great in foreground, but also the tight crop on top works for the best and the scenery is quite pleasant for our eyes.
Friendly regards,
Ricardo

Dear Angshu!

Thank you, nice days
George

Hi, my friend Angshuman,
A nice landscape in your composition, which high POV offers a good depth to the image.
The contrast between the green color of the vegetation with the brown one of the water of the river is very strong, and the palace - museum with the golden spire us attracts the look with his beauty.
It is an agreeable at sight and well made photo.
Great shot.
Friendly regards,
Josep

Good depth of field and nice contrasting natural colours. Well done on this nice view.
Best wishes
Mark

Good title : apart from the small golden roof of the temple in the bottom, mud is clearly the main color of the picture. But still there is the green of the jungle to provide some additional colors. A little more sharpness in my opinion.

All the best,

Emmanuel

Hi Angshu,
This is splendid POV with the the golden spire peaking out the the bright green jungle. The river almost looks like melted chocolate. Like the whipped cream on a this yummy photo, the clouds decorate the distant blue mountain tops. HLJ, Pat

Hi Angshu!
This shot is very nice in terms of colors and sharpness. The foreground branches are a bit disturbing but otherwise, this is an excellent capture of the vegetation and mighty Nam Khan.
Very good shot and as always, a great note.
