Photographer’s Note

This was taken at a nightmarket in Laos. These umbrella's where sitting on the groud with some sort of light behind them. They where for sale, and I actually bought one, and lugged it all over Laos.

Great concept, detail, and color. The position of the unbrellas makes an abstract statement and the night colors filter through the opaque material to create a wonderful composition.

The umbrellas form a beautiful design frame for the wonderful light and color. Were the umbrellas for sale? Providing shelter for sellers? Or is this something arranged ala Christo?

well seen, and well taken! i especially like the fact that the umbrellas cover the entire picture, and the fact that they continue over the edges of the picture gives the illusion that there are many more of them.

it's amazing that you go to laos, to the small town of luang prabang, go to a night market, take a photo of some umbrellas, get home, post the photograph of a website ... only to find that someone else has posted virtually the same photo!

Lovely light Chris, These parasols make great see through screens, I like the way you fill the entire frame with the graphical composition.

Hi Chris, I saw David Smeaton's photo with the link to your similar one. This is very good too, the unbrellas with the light shining through is a good composition. Colours and details are good too.
