This is just a quick snap, a simple sidestreet scene taken in the laid back town of Luang Prabang on a bright morning full of lively colors that caught my attention. To me it's a meaningful travel record shot and probably subtle art, an absolutely essential to getting the most out of the street in a foreign land of different culture, peoples and way of life. It's where I get the 'feel' for a short while at least, a shot which gives me a tremendous gift as it happens before my eyes.
Luang Prabang, a UNWH site is a scenic little town steep in history with all the charm of traditional Lao-French colonial architectures. Surrounded by mountains at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, making for eye candy every which way you look, a place where you really want to take it easy and the aimless stroll. LP was for some time, the capital of Laos until that function was removed to Vientiane, but for many Laotians, it remains the religious and cultural heart of the nation.
Thanks for viewing..

hello Abmdsudi - Luang Prabang is one of my most favourite places in SE Asia. It is, as you say, laid back with a fabulous slow pace of life amidst a collection of superb buildings and scenery. This is a creative and clever shot composed well with striking contrasts between the colourful display of art work and the play of shadows across the road. I admire your eye here, this is a shot very few of us would see. Warm regards Rosemary

The peculiar shadow covering two thirds of the view makes this a very original composition. The dominance of darkness makes the brightly lit background look even more stunning with its many colours and the salesman waiting for customers. I enjoyed Luang Prabang very much 40 years ago so it is nice to hear that it is still a pleasant and laid back town.

An artist's eye can find art anywhere. If that is followed by a superb execution, we get a presentation like this.
Thanks for this fantastic "travel" photo.

hello abmdsudi. this street artist, namely art student, has many colorful artworks for sale, or also for photographing. you did not only notice the colors in there, but also made good use of the tree's shadows. the palm trees plus the shadowed tree give an idea about the lush vegetation of the city.

you worked a little magic in this "quick snap" and created an artistic photo which draws the viewer to this scene for a long time. I like very much how the shadowy patterns invite us to trace and follow them, offering us a delicious reward at the upper third of the frame. The shadows point to the street scene that extends horizontally and displays so vivid, brilliant and lovely colours. The artist is also very well placed among his works giving to the art a personal reference. You've managed light and contrasts in a remarkable way. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

a very attractive image, I love such places with Asian artists' paintings - there's always a special feel and atmosphere about them. Wonderful shady foreground, just like a painting too... Excellent bright colors and perfect sharpness, good job.
Have a nice week!

Excellent composition and frame.
Very impressive shodow.
macjake (69223) 2013-11-25 15:29
well, this one worked out really well didn't it!
great contrasts abound in this photo.
the dark foreground sets up the bright upward areas so well.
the the vivid blues and oranges in the art make a strong visual punch.

This is why street photograph is so interesting and ofcourse so satisfying. The student has a colourful display of pictures and they are hung along the road. The student himself can be seen - doing another of his paintings.
However, the most interesting bit is the wonderful shadow of the tree and its branches covering the width of the road. The light and shade making another wonderful picture.
Thanks for sharing, abmdsudi.

Excellent photo, superb light, shadows and colors play. There is an excellent contrast between the colourful paintings, which are also in excellent light and the darker foreground and background area. I like the well balanced arrangement with nice open space in foreground. Well done my friend.
mcmtanyel (24041) 2013-11-25 21:19
The shadow of the tree behind you is like lacework. Nice contrast between the predominant dark grey of the shadows and the colorful artwork of the art student.

I really like the way you've seen this scene with the rich tree shadow in the foreground. Interesting separation of plains. Well done, have a good day.
mkamionka (37855) 2013-11-26 6:43
very impressive composition with the shadows making a nice and wide foreground. At the same time they do not cover the colorful exhibition behind. The student art is nicely mixed with the palm trees behind.

A full of strong contrasts, first dark shade of large trees composition, while in the background we see an explosion of color in that range if not "batik"?, But in any case their colored reproductions and captivates the eye.
Both the brightness and sharpness are perfect.
Very well done. I love it.
Have a good evening and week.
All the best.

Somehow the big negative space in front does not distract from the composition at all, in fact I think it help viewers to focus on the wonderful and colorful display. Good lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.

A fascinating shot. The effect of the shadow and the contrast of light and color is of course brilliant (the trees in the shadow look like old friends meeting) but what is really cool is how we could see this scene in so many parts of the world, but here we have a local flavor.
If I were to walk around the parks of Dublin today, I would see this scene, but of course instead of Palm trees, it would be old oaks, instead of paintings of Eastern gods and icons, it would Celtic crosses, but the theory of the mans work and sale remain the same. Beautiful to see how different, and yet remarkably similar people all across the world are.
Thanks as always

Un coté artistique que donne les ombres des arbres sur le sol, le contraste avec les affiches colorées, une belle composition ombre a la lumière, des couleurs sombres aux colorées, belle scène de vie

Certainly a LOT of shadows in play here & I very much like the composition - the art work colourful & the light in the image sets everything off so beautifully - I hope the young student sells a few of the paintings - right at this moment he appears to be studying hard.

Ciao Abmdsudi, lovely composition with fantastic shadow, excellent clarity and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

You're capturing well this scebe by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the spectacle in which the salesman sell many art paintings at the roadside. It's also impressive that there are many kind of paintings of this peculiar region, such as Budda, resort, animal and craft etc. And, the shadow projected to the road draws out a good impact.
krzychu30 (15512) 2013-11-28 1:28
fine composed daily-life scene.
I must say the BG,namely the road with so captivating light&shades play looks really magnificent and provides very nice opening to the rest of the scene with those colorful paintings.
Excellently considered, framed image with really lovely light and superb,well-contrasting colors.
mesutilgim (95554) 2013-11-28 7:10
Very nice capture of this streetseller, most probably an arts student in front of her display.
The shadows in the foreground creates a nice effect.
TFS and best regards

Well seen and composed with this Fg and this good contrast between B&w and coloured Bg, Tfs.
Angshu (56758) 2013-12-03 5:28
The picture takes a different dimension thanks to the shadow of the tree which fills the FG. As you said, this might be a side street & not the main street. Like the details you show here of the paintings he is creating! A daily life shot with a difference!

I remember having to learn so much history about Luang Phrabang in school when I was little and I hated it. Now I wish to learn more about it. And I've learn alot here on TE from different people who were here.
this is a good shot considering the difficult light of so much shadow and light contrast, you managed it well and really brings out the color of the art work and yet not over exposed or under expose the shadowy area. I like the pattern of the shadwo and lead us to the artist at work and the colorful display of his works. I also like the approach of looking from a distance. It show the respect of space and not intruding. Sometimes we tourist, myself include can be a bit agressive and we sometimes forget other people private space :)
adores (45717) 2013-12-12 16:00
I really like the way you framed this one, with the huge shadow of the tree on the ground leading us to those wonderful colourful paintings and the woman working. A good quality shot, I like it!
