Photographer’s Note
Xeno, a small town in Savanakhet, hardly any tourist would ever stop here. I was here for a few days because I was born and lived there until I was 9 years old. While visiting my older sister, My Swiss friend and I visited the temple there. There was a group of teenage monks who were very carious and excited to see western tourist there, and they wanted to talk to him because they wanted to learn English from him. Not knowing that my friend speaks with strong Swiss accent, and I can speak English as well as he can if not better. Which was understandable, and it suited me just fine. It gave me the opportunity to take pictures of them while they were talking. We spent about two hour under a mango tree teaching them English, me as a translator, not a teacher. I took this one, as the sun peek through the tree and lighten up his face.

Olá Way, superb close portrait. Spending so much time with them must have given you the opportunity for many good photos. I remember of a cycling I did in the outskirts of Savanakhet and also a stop in a temple on the way - monks allways want to practice English with us, but their vocabulary is very poor and after a while we can't comunicate any more. But with you, it must have been fantastic for them. Excellent details and lovely light beating on his face.

The light is bightening up his face the samne way as you an dyour friend must have brightened up their day. I had to smile at your note, of course they would have assumed that they could better practise english with the wedterner). But that left with the time to take the photos...........

Beautiful light you caught on this novice. Colors and textures on his robe and skin are excellent. It brings me back to Laos and the gentleness of its people.
