Photographer’s Note
This was taken on my first night in Laos.
I was sitting by the Mekong having a Beerlao, and this woman approached carrying her baby in her arms. She wasnt looking for money, she wanted food. I bought her some sausages on a stick (after i snapped the shot)
Across the river is Thailand.
Judging from the number of Thai tourists that come across the river every day, the two countries could not be more different, and yet they are so similar.

Hi Fred,
Beautiful light and great mood ... always nicer to have people in such pictures, gives an extra dimension.
Say hi from Holland to you Rotterdam parents :))))

I can't believe this hasn't got more exposure, more points. It's extremely natural, pretty, poignant, and far from being posed. Can't agree with the above, that it's always nicer to have people in pictures...but in this case, she makes it. You should be very pleased with this work (and unlike the great Kevin Carter - you even helped your subject after shooting her - bonus!)
