Photographer’s Note
This is a game which the girls were playing almost every time I walked past. They tie a string to the lamp post, and someone holds the other end. They gradually raise it higher and higher. At first they jump over it. When it gets really high, they try to snag it with their feet. Some jump back wards, some kick, all varieties of gymnastics. It amazed me how they managed to have it so high, and still catch it with their feet. They have real fun, enjoy life with almost nothing compared to what my children had when they were young. I, too, had little to play with when young, but had fun every day. Western way is to regulate, have rules and laws for everything, schedules, and lose the joys of spontanous life when young.

Hello Gloria,
Nice action pic, I like the motion blur over the 2 flying girls and the satured colors.
They wear flashing clothes colors too.
The yellow shooe and blue socks take away the gray boring color of the ground. Nice detail.
Thanks

ahah! this is familiar...one of my favourite childhood games....we use rubber bands, bind them all together until we get a beautiful and colorful string....it's a fantastic game! thanks for sharing this, in a way i feel that Asian children are bound together by culture although we are from different countries. thanks Gloria, your photo brought back memories:)

Very good action picture. I like the way the girls are having fun and the little boy is sitting almost bored on his bicycle and watching the action. The rope looks really high even for me to reach :) good shot.

It's funny how the people moving have bright colors and the ones still have black clothes. Nice shot with lots of action and great backdrop. I like the post-pro with lots of color and contrast, perfect for this picture.

hi gloria! i love the way you captured this jump! when i was a kid, girls and some boys, like me, used to play this game too.. I am not sure kids in the west could not be so joyful.. it is just our society and parents who set rules to which everybody should abide. fortunately, not all western societies are so strict and dull!

one of my favorite games from childhood re-created, we used to use an long elastic, we didn't have the idea of the lamp post, so one girl would stand on one side, and another on the other side, first at ankle level, then knee, and up and up the elastic went all the way to their necks, and we had to jump and do diverse tricks at each level, lots of fun!!! (jumping rope was from the same time... and also fun!)
i like the bored expression of the boy compared to the big laugh of the girls, and the overall composition has something that reminds me Magnum photos...
