Close up picture of a flower taken on Don Det, 4000 Islands, in the far south of Laos.
This was one flower in a field of hundreds, maybe thousands, almost all identical. The plant itself is actually around 4 feet high, so the field was quite a maze and impressive to see.
I like the contrast between the colours of the flower in perfect focus, and the green leafery in the background out of focus.

I know you're not that active here, but I decide you may check in once in awhile anyway. Beside there is no comment yet on this one.
This may looks like a rather simple flower, but it is such important flow in many Asian cultures, on a daily basis as well as religious. As you may have seen in many Buddha statues or painting, he is often sitting on a lotus blossom, the flower is a symbol of purity. It grows out of mud yet the blossom is so clean and pure though it looks delicate but very hardy. We use them for food, the whole plant, from the root to the seed, we use the large leaves to wrap and store food, and yet we still have its flower to enjoy.
In Chinese, if one were to describe a woman as a lotus, meaning she is from a not so good environment, but she is pure, innocent, beautiful and tough.
This is a rather average image but very good details of it before it open up, one it's open it is stunning flower, range from pink to red and some white. The most common are pale pink.
