Photographer’s Note

National Memorial Patuxay at the avenue Lane Xang is situated in the centre of Vientiane prefecture. The Arch of Triumph, or Victory Gate, was formerly known only as Anousavary (monument). It was build in 1958, with architecture inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, and adorned with typical Lao motifs.

You could climb to the top and enjoy a panoramic view over the main streets of the city.

This is an impressive gate of triumph like the ones seen in Europe. The top is very beautiful and I can only imagine the nice from there.
The symmetry on your photo is excellent and the people give a real idea of the size of the gate.

Ein sehr schönes neues Bild, gefällt mir sowohl vom Aufbau als auch von der Stimmung sehr gut.
Als ich es meinem Bruder gezeigt habe, hat er sofort gesagt: Vientiane! Er war vor einigen Jahren dort, ich leider bisher noch nie, aber dein Bild verspricht ja schon einiges von der Stadt :-) Laos könnte durchaus eines meiner nächsten Reiseziele sein. Schön !

Superb photo of this large monument with a great symmetry. It's very well framed by the two palm trees on both sides and the path leads the eye very well towards the gate. The light and colours are pleasant! Thanks for sharing!

Hello Achim,

You use F/11 as exposure, this is very well, this is a wonderful image.
You placed the National Memorial Patuxay lovely between two palmtrees, also a nice depth and perspective, through the excellent choice of the angle, the long way leads us very well to the gate.

Love the visual impact of this strong perspective that culminates on the beautiful exotic arch. Nice symetry enhanced by the two palmtrees. Curiously, I remember seeing this arch from a distance but I never visited...I wonder why. I was just one day there and the rainny weather was terrible...

An asiatic replica of the Arch of triumph. The palm trees are a natural frame to the National Memorial Patuxay. The point of view leads our eyes toward the memorial and is giving depth to the picture. The quality of the light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.
