It was 6.30 am when we woke up..it was our second day in Nong Khiaw & we were leaving for Luang Prabang in the morning. It was dark & heavy fog shrouded the Phu Nang Nawn (Sleeping Princess mountains). The bridge across the river was barely visible. Slowly the sun started to sneak through the dense fog. Nong Khiaw was still asleep.
7.45 am – I took this shot from the bridge. The fog was slowly weathering away revealing the lush green vegetation. Fishing boats parked overnight on the left bank of Nam Ou (there are three in the picture)…and those, which carry passengers to Luang Prabang, Louangnamtha & Phongsali, parked on the right bank (they appear as tiny specs in this picture). We had embarked on our journey on one of these boats an hour later...

Excellent note to accompany this exquisite photo. I have not seen before such wonderful chronicalling of a photo shoot. You narrate the experience, and we can see the product!
Warm regards, and this is an "A" (certainly way beyond a "B").

A nice POV you found! well composed too with the little boats in the corne, weather didnt help you that much but colors are still OK!
it gives a bit the impression of tilt towards the left, but maybe it is just an impression!

I like the mist surrounding the green hills of this shot. The river in the middle crossing the image creates an interesting line. Good depth.
Thanks for sharing

I have never been there but I recognized the place because I had liked a similar view posted earlier by Kath (feather). I like the morning mist in your view, definitely worth to get up early, I like too how this mist mixed with the trees to provide multiple contrasts against the punchy greens.
Have a nice day,

Olá Angshu, I remember the other images from this place that you posted before and I think that this one wins for the mist over the mountains. I really love the atmosphere given by such weather conditions and I agree that wake up very early, most of the times worth well the effort, wherever we are on the planet. This advantage POV is great and the view is fantastic, but that was already mentioned on your other posts from this place.

Laos is a great country where the Mekong river is so much part of the life. i've been there on rpeated occasion since 1989 when i got the chance to visit the first time when the country was still mostly closed to foreigners. Your picture rembers me so much of the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the Mekong in the morning when all life is waking up. The fog participates a lot to this atmosphere. Great job!

Bonjour, mon ami Angshu,
La brume semble jouer le couvercle d'une marmite sur cette grande étendue qui mêle harmonieusement l'eau et la végétation.
Une composition très bien mise en image avec des couleurs étonnantes.
ChrisJ (117201) 2006-12-18 4:22
Is this river a tributary of the Mekong? I went to the Pak Ou caves in 1998 but dont rememeber seeing this. Wonderful colour, lighting, & sharpness. Tfs!

I am perhaps a little late on this and at the risk of repeating what others have already said I would join the chorus in praising the atmosphere. Its the mist hanging over the mountains that makes this so special. Sleepy Mountains, the name couldn't have been more appropriate. The bridge seems to be a photographer's paradise considering most photos of Nong Khiaw is taken from this vantage point.

Interesting view of the river and surrounding rain forest!
The colours are typical and very pleasant fresh green, good lines in the composition...
A nice sense of depth, and the fog adds a mysterious atmosphere!

This is really one of my favorite kinds of shots; lots of water some boats and the hillside thinly veiled by the fog. Just Lovely!!
markstaples (15670) 2006-12-18 12:02
A pretty picture of this river scene with the fog wrapping itself around the greenery. There are nice green tones throughout. Nice one,
josepmarin (58359) 2006-12-18 13:16
It is a very well fitted image, with a good POV and great perspective, where you have caught the mysterious environment of the fog that covers the jungle in background.
There is very good definition in the image, the river is magnificent, and takes the look to us very far.
Good photo, my friend.

Hi Angshu - pretty greens, even the river in green; the fog from side to side in the top is very special - like the boats on the corner - nice note too, regards :) Daniel

Nice top / down point of view and nice fog in the background. The point of earth on the left is intersting, I wonder whether it is natural or some sort of rough peir.
All the best,

just superb and extreme,well done

I remember this view well Angshu, only it was still thick fog at 8am when we set off. The inclusion of the comparatively small boats serves to show the size of the river.
clic (18300) 2006-12-18 17:42
A much pleasing point of view on this beautiful landscape that soothes stressed minds!! Foggy horizon adds drama to this exotic take.
I now quit TE until the end of april, and then I'll be pleased to visit your gallery again.
prezntime (3946) 2006-12-18 21:55
Very impressive. I like the overall greeness of this shot. This color infuses the water, trees and hills behind. THe thick covering of fog along the back of the shot adds a nice mystery to your picture. Is this river usually this calm, it looks like a great spot to travel downriver in a boat?
Good eye for this shot friend.
everlasting (15374) 2006-12-23 2:16
Hi Angshu, I remember a mornign like this in Nong Khiaw, maybe all mornings are like this:) covered in a veil of fog still too early for the sun to burn it away. A fine atmospheric landscape, with the welcome addition of the of the small boats which show the scale not only of the river but of the jungle.
pranab (5354) 2006-12-24 0:54
great pov, you have captured this vast area brilliantly. nice color and it blends well with the fog.good amount of details. curve of the river takes our eyes and imagination somewhere else. well done.

Best regards from Belgium.

Excellent shot; you have captured the atmosphere superbly. The light/contrast/POV is perfect. The mountains covered with fog looks great. Well done & TFS.
