Temple Gathering, a photo from Louangphabang, North

Photographer's Note

This shot was taken at sunrise at Wat Xieng Thong. The resident monks were gathering before heading off around the town to participate in the morning "dak bat," when local villagers gain merit by offering food to the monks. The sun was obscured and a morning fog had not dispersed. To compensate, I have increased the contrast as well as adding a warming filter to alter the cold blue tint from the original photo.

Interesting perspective and nicely framed.

Really like the way the nagas have come out in such a rich emerald green.

Robert - the fog comes across nicely here, somewhat obscuring the BG but giving the temple itself a bit of a glow. I actually wonder how this would have looked without contrast correction, if that might have enhanced the fog as well. Either way, nicely shot and with an interesting POV, including the monks in bright orange at left.
