Mekong's silhouettes Photo

Photographer’s Note

River Mekong in Luang Prabang. People are passing to the other margin to watch teams training for the anual boat race that was going to happen the next day.
These races were part of the Festival of Lights and two nights after this shot, this part of the river was filled with large floats festooned with lights.
In the next day the festive mood was big and noisy, with exciting crowds screaming for their teams, but at the time of this shot, there was a peaceful atmosphere with the silhouettes moving in the distance.

Hello Ricardo,

Your previous picture i could not find the right words to say something useful, but this, man what a great rebound you place here. This is an image i would like to make, so simple, but so perfect composed and most of all those silhouettes on the boat. One boy standing with his arm out makes a great focalpoint. but it's your framing, the b&w and those silhouettes what i like to see here...truly wonderful.

I like it, as I also liked your previous image. It's something about the lack of colour and the silhouettes that is so appealing; artistic even. The misty atmosphere is well conveyed as we can see the disappearing mountains in the distance. Just a very minor point but I might have cloned out the black mark/buoy(?) beyond the boat, as it is just above the middle person in the boat and catches the eye a bit. Nothing serious.

Une photo d'une rare beauté avec une composition toute simple. Le bateau et ses occupants en contre-jour sur l'eau du fleuve c'est une excellente image. Il y a juste un point noir dans l'eau au dessus du rameur du milieu qu'il faudrait enlever d'un coup de tampon.

Oh, on my eyes this is not a race... just a imagine of a very beautiful fairy tale... The story of seven men; they are there, all on the same boat, because the women... their women...ANNA PAOLA??? STOP! Okay, I stop. But one day I will tell you the story, a real story, about some loved women, a kayak, a iceberg and the husbands. Greenland, 1475...(Of course I was many times in Greenland) This is so a dramatic, sweet story!

Uma bela composição,que no meu entender é quase igual à cor original.O tining do disparo é realmente bem estudado pelo pov e enquadramento quer pelo pormenor da criança em pé . Bom resultado de silhueta e em bg gosto do efeito layer.

Ciao Ric, The colour version is not much different, I prefer b&w. Very nice composition with the long boat and the silhouettes. Beautiful mist. Wonderful atmosphere of the Mekong River. Hello Ricardo,

Exactly the kind of photo I appreciate a lot. It is perfect in B&W, he photo earns a lot compared to the color version. There are modulations and details even in the far background where we can see different grounds of mountains.
Moreover, the photo is lifely and easily readable with the guys well separated on the boats.
I like a lot this photo.

Almost no differences between color and black and white, but actually treating it provides an additional atmosphere. I love this background giving misty gray scales of interest and arising well the subject. A photo zen and relaxing. Thank you Ricardo.

Excelente foto em B&P. O que me atrai na composição são as silhuetas bem marcantes e tendo ao fundo um cenário bem mais claro, criando assim um contraste bonito e interessante.

Olá Ricardo,

Pelos vistos, o Luís enganou-se quanto a chegar aos 150, mas certamente que o merecia.

Nota-se que estavas inspirado nesse dia, o que não admira, pois o local é de sonho, os barcos muito pitorescos e aquela bruma torna-os ainda mais fotogénicos. Soubeste aproveitar muito bem a situação, tanto estética como tecnicamente, o que não me parece nada fácil, com toda aquela água tão brilhante.

Neste caso prefiro a versão P&B, embora o original não seja nada colorido.

I don't remember seeing this picture in your other photostream...or did I miss out? This is excellent & the conversion idea would not have been too difficult given the paucity of colours in the original version. The clincher for me is the boy standing. Lovely, lovely shot!

I like this hazy atmosphere over the River Mekong which makes it more mystic. Apparently, the short guy standing in the middle is the "maestro" of the boat :)

On the 2nd November whe will have Loikratong, the festival of the lights, again this year. In Alor Star we will not be at the right place to see Loikratong, we should be for that in Thailand, but work comes first. Your black & white interpretation is excellent with all these fine gray nuances. Thanks for sharing - well done
