Photographer’s Note

At one of the back street wats in Luang Prabang the monks and novices are putting a new skin on their huge drum. The monk squatting is securing the skin in position with nails once it makes the correct sound, another monk is inside listening, his ears stuffed with cotton wool! Eventually, once the upper monk is happy, he will replace the nails with wooden pegs.

Its the bright colours of the monks' robes that really draw the eye and make this shot. I also like the composition and the your use of the foilage as a natural frame.

Its interesting to see these traditional skills at work.
