Canoe on the Mekong River Photo

Photographer’s Note

Taken from the sunset temple in Luang Phrabang. The sun hasn't actually set. It's hidden behind overhanging trees not visible in the frame. No filters used. Colour saturation & red increased about 7% each. Sharpened twice already. Any more, & artefacts appear. The canoe is slightly blurred as it was moving. Taken from a scanned print, so sharpness is a bit lower than a digital image from a cd. About a 1 second exposure with a cable release. From memory, the aperture was already wide open, & a higher shutter speed was not possible. Maybe a faster film (200 iso) next time?

Excellent shot. The colours are splendid and the picture very well composed. I love the reflections and the patterns in the water created by the land. Perfect placement of the boat in the composition.
Peacefulness, tranquility - this picture is meditative. Great job.

A very good time of exposure and aperture to give beautiful lightness for this scene. The composition is also very well done and well balanced. The scan result doesn't alter a lot and the final image keeps its sharpness and contrast. Very beautiful !

I can't advise on shutter speed Chris, but I can say this is an incredible photo. The colours are out of this world and the fact that it's not perfectly in focus doesn't seem to matter much. Sterling work! By the way, it would be interesting to know what your starburst filter would have done to a shot like this...

Graphism too. I like the way you take the viewer in. From the canoe, the eyes follow the river up to the setting glow in the distance. Very warmth color as well in expressing the ambience.
