Photographer’s Note

This is a boy and girl from the Lanten tribe in Northern laos. The Lantens are a very small minority group, I think only 3,000-4,000 overall. The women where bright pink tassles on their black dresses and heavy silver necklaces and earrings. They also shave their eyebrows, I think after they are married. Most of the men and boys I encountered didn't seem to be wearing any traditional clothing, but this little boy was wearing a black shirt and this beautiful necklace.

A beautiful photograph, with a pretty intense look on the face of the boy.
Him in the front, and the girl vaguely in the background works very well. Yeah, I like it Emily.

Now I even regret it more that I haven't seen a bit more of Laos! I was just there for 2,5 weeks. Anyway, a good reaosn to go back. :)

This boy portrait is very beautiful.
He seems serious, not intimidated;May be he is proud to have a pretty necklace (elegant ?). the girl in the back ground allows to play with this contratse boy/girl, it is well seen.

beautiful photo. Your subject looks like a very grown up little boy.
I love the tones- it's not actually black and white, right? Did you tint the photo to be more of a sepia? I'm not sure what steps to take in photoshop to do this.
Anyway, love the shot

Beautiful kids- a very warm feel to this photo. Good DOF, maintaining enough to clearly make out the girls look of concentration.
