Photographer's Note

An image from my "street" collection:

I came across this lovely rosy-cheeks young tribal Ahka woman having a good break at Luang Namtha market. She was totally engrossed in her needle work and was lucky to get few shots without her paying attention to what I was doing. This vibrant small market place - is a little gem surrounded by hilltribe villages, comes to life early in the morning when troupe of colourful Akha hill tribe come to trade. It's also a place for them to mingle around, chatting away, meeting friends and family as well as selling some of their own farm produce.

It's a fascinating place to witness indeed with interesting faces but what attracted me most is how they incorporate many striking colours into their traditional dresses. For them, it is important that a girl can do embroidery as well as work in the fields and in their culture, those skills are more important than the look.

Meeting different cultures and traditions is one of my main interests when traveling and hopefully my photo is my way of recording those encounters.
