Photographer's Note

An old woman sitting in the shadow, in the market of Dao Sao, in Laos.
Dao Sao Island is part of the Golden Triangle SEZ (Special Economical Zone). This is the area where the three borders (Thailand, Laos and Myanmar) meet and where we can find markets and Casinos. To reach Dao Sao, one can take a boat in Sop Ruak, in Thailand, cross the Mekong River and pay a fee to the authorities there.
A good place for those who want to go shopping or even to try the national whisky. I preferred to walk in the market and watch the place and the locals. For me this place was really useful to come to the conclusion that I must return one of these years and see the real Laos.

non ho avuto occasione di visitare l'estremo orente, nè tantomeno il Laos, ma questo tuo scatto mi sembra che rappresente appieno l'emblema del paese, o quantomeno dei suoi abitanti.
Hai colto un abitante, e al di là dell'ottima tecnica utilizzata, perfetta in tutto, senza sbavature di alcun genere, che osserva la vita attorno a sè, e sembra essere vittima della povertà, come potrebbe far pensare la mancanza delle scarpe, mentre il cane sembra quasi volerle contendere la bottiglia d'acqua che le tiene compagnia come suo unico avere.
Uno scatto di forte impatto che può essere utile per capire le problematiche di questo paese.

Il y a un fort contraste entre l'arrière plan et le sujet.la lumière est bien gérée et les textures du visage de cette femme sont rendues avec beaucoup de détails.Bonne soirée

Face expression here is most impressive and sad. But, I can see hands with bracelets, so there is some contradiction that sensed by looking at this.
Anyway, you managed a pic. undoubtly raised thoughts.

A fine shot, Her eyes have a mass of character but unsure about her emotion and the far-away-look. It's an excellent image and really captures just as she is but her attitude is a story on its own. Your composition is wonderful, spot on with the positioning sharp in focus and lovely dark background in natural colors. I think you are able to capture her mood indeed speaks volumes. Fine capture, Congrats

A beautiful people shot, composed really nicely. This woman looks like she has seen a lot in life, and her face seems to tell a thousand stories. Great idea to include the dog on the right too, he almost seems to be sneaking into your picture. Very nicely seen and captured, thanks for sharing.

People pictures like this is an element of photography I have never really tried, so I love learning the craft a little by admiring captures like this.

Hi Ana,

Congratulations on this portrait of this elderly lady - I find her fascinating & I am wondering whether or not she is living in poverty or not... the jewellery is an indication that she is better off than most & I hope that this is the case for her at this stage of her life.
She certainly looks sad.

This is a sensational portrait, that reminds me a lot of Patrick Yquem's work or that of Abmdsudi. The colours are wonderful but it is the definition and sharpness that make this photo the masterpiece it is. Superb job my firmed, congratulations.

This is a good natural portrait of the old lady in traditional Laotian tribal dress. You have handled the exposure very well here. Interesting aspect is the stray dog & the water bottle. Well done portrait!
