Photographer's Note

Taken at about 3,800m in the range immediately to the south of Lake Issyk-Kul. The Chinese border is probably 60-80 km away in the distance. Kyrgyzstan is often called the Switzerland of central Asia as it is as mountainous as Switzerland - probably more so.
Nearly 95% of the country is mountainous: almost half of it at an elevation of over 3000m (9840ft) and three-quarters of it under permanent snow and glaciers.

This picture was taken in the height of summer.
