Visiting Southern Kyrgyzstan right after the civil war seemed very tricky, but turned out to be less dangerous than I thought. Yet, the sight of house upon house, burned out, windows shattered, and people in awe at the destruction was impressive all the same. Here, a local Kyrgyz girl sits down in despair looking at one of the buildings that were burned down in the clashes.

The colors of the girl in front against the darkened windows and wall are fantastic.
