Photographer’s Note
Another scanned photo from an old slide : on the shores of high altitude Song Kol lake (around 3000m high), we were lucky to witness (and participated to) the dismantling of 2 yurts, those round huts covered with felt wool (you can see one in the WS) : it was the end of the summer season, the weather was really freezing at night and the animals had already moved back to the villages at a much lower altitude.
Fortunately, my companion of travel, a tall woman - taller than the men around there, was able to pick up the round, central piece, which is the highest (that part has symbolic meanings and is even represented on the Kyrgyz flag). Another photo on the same subject soon.
This family was relatively well off, as you can see in the WS : with the 4WD car at the back - not ours, we had hired an antiquated taxi with a charming driver - we came to know this family because he was their relative and we were then invited for a free delicious meal, with fish fresh from the lake. This family owns also a large herd of sheeps, plus several horses and cows. They even had their servants following them, living in their own yurt, an old couple with a kid.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

although the colours of the sky seem a bit off, (probably from the scan) the intersting note and the image provides us an opporunity to glimpse into the life of these people. Thanks Catherine.

Salut Catherine
I never made it to Altai in Western Mongolia, so I didn't see any Khazaks. These circular tents are actually called 'gers' in Mongolia, & the yurts of the reindeer people are triangular shaped, like a North American Teepee or wigwam. Semantics aside, I like the bright red superstructure, contrasting against the blue sky. A superb daily life shot & tfs! Would you recommend Khazakstan? Merci!

Hi Catherine,
Woooooww superb image really. The composition, the colors are absolutely wonderful, the pov and the way the photo takes me inside to wander around is superb. The cloudy sky in the background is wonderful too.
Je vous shouaite une excellente semaine. Amities. Salvator.
PS.And I was considering myself lucky to have seen Uzbekistan, you were allover these places. Actually I am considering to organize a photo shooting trip to Uzbekistan within the next 2-3 months, for no more than 5-6 people. Interested?

Hi Cath. I haven't seen Kyrgyzstan before though got students from there doing masters in population sciences. Your nice shot with nice description (as usual)gave me a chance to get a view of this region. But where is the 4WD car you mentioned? Looking forward to see more such shots. Regards.

Hi Cath,
Despite being an old slide transfer, the scan retained most of the quality of the original. This is not a scene captured often by photographers. I like the proportions here, with the rule of thirds apropos. I don't see a problem with the sky on my monitor. Well seen and presented and thanks for the most informative note.

Salut Catherine

Yeah,
Salvator's proposal for an Uzbekistan trip sounded really nice to me, but when i consider the incoming colds, i am really intimidated (and i need some funds as well, LOL). Therefore, for the time being, the project is no more than a dream, but someone should be a little bit crazy to dive into those opportunities if he wants his dreams come true.
And after seeing your delightful Central Asia photos, i become feeling like closer and closer to my dreams.
Yeah, indeed a dreamy place Cath. I think gallons of pekmez would keep me warmer there :)))
Cheers & hugs & regards from mum

Bonjour Catherine,

daniel
